EVENT | LANDFALL | EVIDET
Characters: ALL!
Date: January 28th to February 11th
Location: Evidet
Situation: Tu Vishan has washed up near the coastal city of Khatronma.
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.

The suddenness of the looming cliffs takes even the kedan by surprise, in spite of a number of them trying to plot their course with as much knowledge of the ocean’s currents as they already had. Tu Vishan makes landfall without any of the grace shown in previous times, bumping into the cliffs before finally coming to rest on the reef and rocks at the low tide around Khatronma.
Most of Khatronma's shores consist of steep iced cliffs, and once it becomes clear there is no threat, the residents of Khatronma oblige by establishing scaffolding across from the walls of their city to the turtle’s back. A customs area is quickly set apart, and the residents of Keeliai welcomed -- with some slight confusion. The Khatronmans are just as surprised by the unexpected docking as the kedan.

KHATRONMA’S LANDMARKS
Khatronma is grid-like, squares within squares, and surprisingly easy to navigate. Although the shipyards are the city’s heart and industry, its urban centre is its market square in the middle of the city, which cultivates trade between the complexes passing as suburbs. Most inter-city exchanges, including those for snow equipment, occur here. The building complexes are built in relation to the main square, though each has its own smaller square for community play, parties, gifts and other such events. The main difference between the market and the smaller squares is that currency is accepted in the former, but barter is more common in the latter.
Foreigners and kedan alike won’t lack for places to stay. Although it’s customary to offer the hosts a gift before entering their living-area, most Khatronmans are perfectly willing to extend invitations. Since Khatronma isn’t one of the main trading strays in the republic, the opportunity for some unique wares and gifts has made the residents of Keeliai something in demand, and Foreigners shouldn’t be surprised by being offered a room for a night (though, again, gifts to the hosts are customary!). Fortunately, Khatronmans won’t be insulted on being declined.
Just outside the city’s dome, circling almost the entirety of the city save where the land turns to cliff or shore, are sled and ski-tracks among the hills. They aren’t permanent; every night the new snowfall refreshes the tracks, and new ones are made wherever the dunes fall. There is nowhere to hire skis or sleds, but there is a thriving exchange for second-hand and third-hand equipment, and it’s not uncommon to barter for equipment for a few days before turning it back into the exchange.
Around the edges of the dome, where the city’s square-shape doesn’t fit into the circular dome, are the scrapyards. The scrapyards are exactly what they sound like: anything unwanted or unused, particularly by the shipyards, are left here. That doesn’t mean it’s trash -- it’s a lucrative practice to go scrap-hunting. Unbroken objects are rare, because re-gifting unwanted gifts is the usual practice within the city, but sometimes broken toys or equipment are relegated to the scrapyards to save time finding someone to hire for repairs. Scrap-sorters are also commonplace, as they find and sort specific grades of used metal for various industries, and dig out slag to for use in construction.
The actual trash-heaps are elsewhere, outside the city’s dome.

The moment Midii heard about them. She had a small allowance, yes, enough that she could have even indulged. Spoiled herself a little. It had been...how long since she could do that? A year? Longer?
But there would be time for that later. Anything she could get for free first, she would consider buying later.
"...this would be a lot easier if I had learned mechanics too," she muttered absently, shifting through pieces of what looked like some sort of radio or ship navigation system.

She had to bite back a small laugh, glancing down at the object the merchant was attempting to sell her on. By all accounts, it looked to be in pristine condition. Well maintained. The metal pieces were even shiny.
There was just one small problem with it.
"...but, trust me, one thing we have absolutely no use for is a snowblower."

"I don't know what sort of stuff you saw on your river," Sokka says after he hears the Spirit of Winter's moment of awe, "but you're certainly right. That is a big ship. What in the world do they even need a ship that large for?"

At the moment he's standing just off to the side of the street, sorting the coinage into pockets by their value. He isn't sure if he feels like buying anything, but the pickpocketing has been a pleasant distraction.
hope this is all right to start with?
Mostly, apart from keeping idle track of his location, China ignores the white-haired Foreigner till she's done with her business. When she actually has concluded with her initial purpose, the fabric she wanted folded neatly and tucked into the crook of one arm, she takes another glance around to see where he wound up, and, on something like a whim, stops not by the same side of the street but across it from him. She finds a wall to lean against, and watches him, pale eyes intent on his motions even despite passersby in between.
China isn't making an effort to hide it; rather, she's waiting to see how long it takes for him to notice her attention, if he does at all. With any luck she can get him to come to her, instead of the reverse.
definitely!

scrapyards; open
Of note is that she's for the most part avoiding the scrap-sorters, preferring to look at the unsorted piles herself, and that she seems not at all bothered by the relatively cooler weather, despite not wearing anything like a coat.

[if this is the first time you've met China, you may wish to eyeball this; she does a passive magical Thing.]

At the moment, he's got his sights set on a large piece of fairly high-quality steel sticking out of one of the bigger piles. It's wedged in there pretty deep, but it ought to just slide out without causing too much disturbance... He gives it a tug. Still stuck. He pulls harder. The scrap pile shifts, and as he pulls the metal free, it starts a minor avalanche of miscellaneous detritus. Oops.
Tony turns on his boot jets and launches a couple meters into the air, checking that there was no one in the immediate area who he just dumped a pile of scrap on. Oh, shit— there's a woman standing right there on the other side of the pile he just toppled. Er. At least it doesn't look like anything hit her?
"Sorry!" Tony calls. He lands in front of her and retracts the faceplate. "Sorry about that, I, uh, I didn't realize there was anyone over here."
Now that he's getting a good look at her, he can see that she's... well, gorgeous, for one. Also, not anybody he recognizes. She doesn't look like the locals, so, one of the new foreigners, maybe? Crap. Now he really feels bad. What a way to greet a newcomer.
"Are you okay? I didn't drop anything on you, did I?" She looks fine, but he's anxious anyway. What if she's hurt? What if she's mad at him? He really doesn't want her to be mad at him.

Because I'm a glutton for punishment
But Sokka is a rather choosy shopper. He's extremely careful and tight with his coinpurse, so he's often really really unable to make up his mind. And so it just so happens that he's looking at a telescope at the moment. He's looking through it, and everything is completely blurry. But Sokka's trying to determine exactly how blurry the image is, how easy it would be to fix, and if it's worth the cost of actually buying it. After all, it could come in handy... maybe.
It just so happens that as he's turning around, he happens to point the thing directly at China's face. And the objects in Sokka's eyes are MUCH closer than they actually are, which means that he can't even see her entire face! He practically jumps back a bit before looking at China with the biggest and stupidest grin ever.

Starting in Keeliai, then hopping around Khatronma; closed to Solomon
Technically, the third part wasn't an observation about Khatronma itself, but Skulduggery wasn't going to split hairs.
That was why, on the morning of the third day after docking, Skulduggery went and knocked on Solomon's door in the Hotel.

LAUNCH DAY - FEB 1
The short strip of beach at the base of the cliff is reserved for those who built the ship, the place of honour with the best view (and access to the ship in the event of unforeseen catastrophe!), while the inlet which is the city’s main harbour is layered with people and stalls. Most stalls only sell food and mildly alcoholic drinks, but a few sell banners advertising the city as well as individual shipyards -- all of whom take personal pride in their own ships. The overall mood of the day is jovial and upbeat, and the shipbuilders seem happy to share their success with the visitors.
The launch goes well in spite of the weather and the blizzard forecast for the evening.

It had been some time, dreams aside, since Aya had been in the presence of a traveling vessel. A ship, colloquially, though this was a far, primitive cry from her beloved Interceptor. Still, there was a noticeable air of frivolity around her as she stood amongst the crowd. Out from the rest of the crowd, lacking the outerwear protection others required.
Because she didn't need it. The cold had no affect on her whatsoever, nor had she ever sought the need to keep up a pretense of otherwise. No coat. Not even a sweater. In fact, the only additional article of clothing she wore that day was a little hat atop her head. A souvenir sailor hat.
The merchant she'd gotten it from had insisted.

What is interesting -- and startlingly uncharacteristic -- is that he's got a little Bresilykian child standing beside him, clutching a newly purchased coloured pennant, eager to wave it once the Bronzeglider slips from its berth. And for whatever reason, Bakura hasn't moved away from the boy's proximity.
Hope this goes better than the last time...

THE EMISSARIES - FEB 6
None of the emissaries make it a secret that their goal is to secure passage on Tu Vishan. They'll remain in Khatronma until permission from the family heads is granted, and then they'll be moving back and forth between Khatronma and Keeliai, making it possible to speak with any of them at either location. The military commander, Azehaiss, generally takes the lead on speaking with the Khatronmian mayor, but his primary focus is getting a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of all Tu Vishan's divisions: the kedan and the Foreigners.
Eiryam and Ingsthya can often be found together, and spend more time in Keeliai than in Khatronma; as the two youngest members of the group, they have something of a friendly rivalry going and tend to bicker as much as they investigate. Both of them are highly interested in having dealings with the Families, as well as any Foreigner who can give them insight into those factions.
Khayleof prefers to let chance dictate her interactions with the kedan and Foreigners, because her bones are old, she's fond of saying. Despite this, she's actually quite spry, and not afraid to rap someone over the head if they're not being respectful to their elders.
Nandzinra also spends much of her time in Keeliai, or more appropriately, outside Keeliai. It's most common to find her in various locations on the turtle's shell, examining the state of its regrowth. She also carries around quite the suitcase of testing equipment, and isn't shy about taking samples.
For Azehaiss
Dante doesn't like military types much, but he's sure that it can't be entirely impossible to ask one simple question. So he waited to figuratively ambush the commander. He's not hiding behind some bureaucracy, so how badly could this go?
"I expected someone like you to leave speaking to the little guys to his underlings."

ITEM RETRIEVAL
The Perfect Amulet Half can be found in a slag-heap near the top of the cliffs, where resources are pulleyed down to the shipyards. Those overseeing the slag-heap will be baffled as to how it got there, since it seems in fine condition, and several offers will be made for it.
Druk the dragon’s egg can be found in one of the shipyard furnaces. Around Khatronma’s ‘docks’ it’s not terribly difficult to hear jokes made about ‘the lucky egg’, and the construction workers have begun a rather unorthodox tradition of claiming the egg to ‘change the luck’ of their ship-building efforts. Currently, the ship to which it is lending its luck is the Bronzeglider, the ship slated to be launched on February 1st.
The klava press set is in the daily ‘yard sale’ in the central market square.
The Phantom Blade and ammo can be found in the hands of a sled-guide outside the dome. The sled-guides, like life-guards, are stationed around the dome to keep an eye on those playing on the snow-fields. This particular guide is using the crossbow to fire brightly-coloured warning flags into the trees, to mark out the daily safety boundary. She’ll be reluctant to part with it, but can be persuaded into making a gift or an exchange.
Revelations: Closed to Nelo Angelo
She would have gone to Dante for backup, but, still uncertain about where she and Dante stood in regards to each other, turned instead to Nelo's door and knocked lightly.

Perfect Amuelt Half| OTA
Before he could answer that question, his foot caught something on a chain. Wait a minute, was that his mother's amulet? What the hell was it doing in a place like this?
"You lose something?" The overseer, of course, caught Dante.
"As a matter of fact, I did." He points to the necklace he was holding by the chain.
"It seems awfully pristine for something that was just dumped into a slag heap." The overseer was puzzled.
"Well, it's a good thing I found it before it got smashed then, isn't it?" He shook his head in disdain and put the necklace on, soot and all. "I'll tell you what though, that is the last time I lend that woman anything."
Because some how, some way, this is Trish's fault.
"Say, would you be willing to part with that? I know I've heard some foreigners complain about financial issues, and rest assured-"
"Not gonna happen." Dante dug in his heels instantly, and attempted to walk away from the conversation.

Re: ITEM RETRIEVAL
Her game face was pretty terrible as she tried to negotiate for the klava press. the merchant knew it was some kind of food preparation device, and Tazendra was trying and failing to conceal how much she wanted it. Mostly because food and beverages from home were such a treat.
The Dragon Egg [Closed to Sokka]
Eventually though, they make it to what look to be shipyards. Now this is interesting. The ships are not exactly Fire Nation warships, but they're still neat to look at.
Whether Sokka follows him or not, Zuko meanders along the docks, his gaze roving over the many ships that are parked there in various states of construction. The burning furnaces nearby catching his attention as well.

CLOSED LOCATION (reward request)
---
Just outside the edge of the protective dome and on a tiny inlet to the water’s edge, is a small semi-permanent research lodge. Though not exactly hidden, it’s still difficult to find unless one is looking for a bit of solitude or already knows it’s there, being out in the freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall where most residents of the city don’t bother to go.
The engineers and researchers here study whatever happens to be deemed necessary and requires access to the water. There’s a great deal of activity around the lodge and frequently at the water’s edge, and it involves machinery which looks a great deal like a radar system, except for the loudspeakers attacked. Through those loudspeakers can be heard a bass-like thud which might have been pleasant if it weren’t for the constant interruption of whining static. Fortunately the Bresilykians dislike the sound as much as any visitors do -- activating their equipment only when they’re actively testing.
Though baffled and frustrated, the researchers and engineers consider visitors to be a welcome break, especially ones who have travelled enough to provide a new perspective. Though reluctant to allow strangers near the heart of their equipment, the researchers are willing enough to show off some of it, not expecting to be understood and declining to clarify too much if asked. They’ve had issues with other nations mis-using their technology before, they will explain, but the visitors are welcome to the data the Bresilykians have collected in the interim.
The research is to do with a radar system which detects brain-waves underwater. They’ve been working on it for about nine months as a way to study and communicate with intelligent life-forms underwater, and to fish with the assurance that they won’t be accidentally harming beings with the potential for self-awareness. For quite a while their studies have been promising, but now, all of a sudden, their broadcasts are being scrambled and they aren’t sure why.

The walk was quiet for the first part of it, the two of them just enjoying each other's company. The silence was broken only by the crunch of their feet (Wan's green socks already well worn and nearly worn out at this point due to the lack of proper shoes) on the snow. He watched the water almost as much as he watched Zuko and it was because his attention was on the water that he noticed they were approaching a 'dip' in the land.
"Looks like there's an inlet a little further ahead. Might be a cove. If it is, we could camp there for a while, where the wind can't get us.
