LANDFALL | TAVIMBI | FEBRUARY MINGLE LOG
Characters: ALL!
Date: January 27th to ???
Location: City of Hatal, Tavimbi
Situation: After anchoring Tu Vishan to the coastline of Tavimbi, the city of Hatal welcomes kedan and Foreigners alike.
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.

( click for full size )
The southern port city of Hatal is used to getting its fair share of visitors, so after the initial surprise of having a continent-sized turtle washing ashore and parking there like it's going to be a while, the Tavimbians recover with admirable poise and begin processing the new arrivals through their customs procedure. After providing a basic summary of their informátion (age, species, duration of tenure on Tu Vishan, and list of "potentially disruptive abilities") they'll be issued a pass stamp, which they must keep on their person while in Hatal. It's made of a brassy metal, a little larger than a credit card, and inscribed with their information, their date of arrival, and whether they've had any run-ins with the laws in Tavimbi (it will be stamped accordingly by the authorities if such happens.)
Once that's all taken care of, visitors will be welcomed to Hatal!
OOC: There are starters in the comments for various areas of Hatal, or you can use the rest of the post for anything on Tavimbi which doesn't fit under those headings.

Anton | CW: It's a fight so....
She glanced at the weapons offered and, despite her longing to try something different, choose something similar in weight and balance to Revelations. There was a rather large crowd waiting for them and she definitely didn’t want to show them anything too exciting right away.
at least this time they won't be going around tearing off limbs.
It was Valdis who brought it up, and after consideration, it seemed like a sound enough idea. Anton knew Valdis could handle him in a fight, and channelling some emotion into action usually helped. His main issue would be not pushing himself too far, given Raine's diagnosis a few months ago.
He hadn't quite been expecting the turnout, though, and spent a moment surveying the audience with a frown before turning to select his weapon. They reminded him of Hopeless's shockstick, a little. Its sigils had always glowed and these had a definite spark to them. After a glance at Valdis and her chosen weapon to judge reach, Anton chose a one-handed shorter-bladed sword. They were to provide a spectacle, after all, and Anton's naturally longer reach would offset that of Valdis's sword. He also chose a small shield.
Then he nodded to the referee to signal that he was ready.
True
She darted forward at the referee's signal, trying to slip behind Anton and get a strike in to the back of his knee.

But he still opted for defense at the first, so when the referee signalled he didn't move in. Valdis was fast, anyway--no need to push through it right off--and she fought like a wolf, hassling and quick. Anton's shield came down to cover his knees and his blade went straight for her grip on her sword, intending to disarm.

The shield was small, but her sword wasn't made to be used with one. Maybe it would put her off-balance.

They traded blows that way, Anton leading them toward the shield--or attempting. In truth Valdis was one of the few he was willing to risk fighting, knowing that she could match him. That made it hard enough.
Then he caught one of her blows and his elbow quivered alarmingly to hold it, enough that even Valdis ought to feel it. Anton grunted and pushed away, shifting his grip on the blade. If he pushed any further, Raine would be harsh with him.
"That's enough," he said.
"You're forfeiting?" said the referee in surprise. Anton looked down at his fingers on the blade. The tremble couldn't be seen, but he could feel it there, nonetheless.
"Yes."
no subject
She was loathe to forfeit, but if that was what he needed, then she would, however, he spoke before she could, confirming her concerns. She barely heard the confused referee declare her the winner, she was too busy moving to Anton's side.
"Let's get back to the Hotel," she murmured, "You need to rest."
no subject
"I'm getting old," Anton told the referee dryly, holding out his hand so the referee could see it waver. "There is no point in pushing myself unduly if my own physical weakness has already spoken the end."
"Ah!" The referee's eyes lit up, and he bowed. "An old fighter who knows prudence. You are indeed a skilled warrior." He turned toward the slightly confused crowd, weaving a story of a father's mentorship of his daughter of caution as well as skill and speed, 'til the student could surpass the master; of the father's proud acceptance that he'd been surpassed.
By the time the pair had left the arena, the crowd was roaring instead. Anton murmured, "I'm fine, you know."
no subject
"He weaves a good story," she replied, not commenting further until they had reached the weapons room. She tried to stay silent, but the memory of the waver kept nagging at her.
"You say that you're fine," she said finally, turning to face him, "But you aren't. The gist is running hotter than it used to. You have bouts of weakness that cause your hands to shake. You're trying to hide it, but you forget that I have senses that other people don't."
no subject
The last was said reluctantly. It wasn't something he wanted to talk about at all, but particularly with Valdis. She was protective, overly so; if he told her the effect China was having on him, he didn't think she would accept a request to leave it alone.
no subject
"There's nothing I can do?"
Her voice didn't rise with the question, making it more of a shocked statement than anything else.
no subject
He went to her to brush her hair back from her face. "There is nothing wrong with what can't be changed, a leanbh. Such moments can turn lead to diamond. What defines a person is what they do when faced with them."
