Event | Landfall | Dreaming

Characters: Any and every!
Date: August 10th - 31, 2013
Location: The realm of Dreaming as accessed via Sinbrilee
Situation: Dreaming is but one of the three realms and here characters are subject to their fanciful thoughts.
Warnings/Rating: Please place content warnings in subject headers!

Sinbrilee | Dreaming | Death

Life. Dreaming. Death. Three realms overlaid upon one another and yet each distinctly their own. They dwell in Life and do so live upon the back of the great turtle as those of Sinbrilee did upon the shell of his sister. However, there stand numerous arches of marble throughout the ruined city that are inlaid with runes beyond understanding. Those that live and breathe which step through those whose runes glow with faint, iridescent light tread instead into the realm of Dreaming.

Here, there exists no single defining characteristic beyond the visitor's imagination. The landscape sculpts to their individual thoughts, the events to their dreams. From a drab gray nothing to the most brilliant of displays, the senses perceive all that they wish to perceive for all that nothing here truly exists. This far from Tu Vishan, the ability to shape their surroundings is all they have, for Sinbrilee's Dreaming does not have the energy to sustain powers, only the bodies of those that dwell here.

Should two parties near, then the Mesh begins. Dreams, you see, not only can be shared, but they strive to be. These visions sculpted into reality reach out for one another and blend. They begin an exchange akin to a linking of the minds, within which one visitor can learn the other's deepest thoughts. Their limitation is but compatibility, for two minds that cannot flow upon the same current cannot hold the Mesh.

Happiness or loss, the landscape and events play out memories and fancies with a most convincing air. The mood rises and falls with the tide of the visitor's mind, detached as they are from the soothing influence of a great turtle's mind. Nothing here, however, is real; 'constructs' simply fade if taken through the archways and even the greatest scientific minds or tools will reveal nothing of its source. This is an ancient magic of an ancient realm, long practised in concealing itself from any prying.

Note: Due to the fluid and highly individual nature of Dreaming, no official subheaders will be provided in the comments of this post. Feel free to post and thread however you like, so long as the rules of Dreaming are adhered to.

[ A sideways glance with a raised eyebrow. ]

Clipboards? That's old tech.

[ And sure enough, there's clearly a good deal of advanced technology around. The agents are waving these wand things around bodies and the shore, then looking at them for readings. Others are standing around with the paper thin, dark glass looking tablets and recording information on them.

But she shakes her head at his suggestion. ]

Probably not. Usually diseases are a little different. This seems more... Diseases don't usually involve separate things growing out of people. Things like this usually have the creatures being an end goal of some sort. [ Pause. Shrug. ] Or are just for shits and giggles.

[ Man, the number of psychopaths who do this shit just because they can is astounding. ]
dunhaming: (how could this go wrong)

[ She notices open mouth to talk, and then the look away. Sometimes she forgets that the stuff they deal with is not... usual, that normal people wouldn't imagine taking it in without blinking. She watches him for a few seconds (a bit concerned? perhaps but she won't wound his pride by mentioning it, she's not a fool) and then gives him a friendly sort of bump with her shoulder. A silent "yeah it's freaky, don't worry, I got your back, it's gonna be fine and it's okay to need a moment" message.

Then an agent walks up with a tablet and hands it to her in passing. She reads through it, biting her lip in thought. The tablet looks like a sheet of dark glass, about the size of a piece of paper. When she's finished scrolling she holds it out in case he wants to look. It has the standard details of a preliminary report on a crime scene. A Chinese merchant ship ran aground and caught on fire, causing the people on board to abandon ship and try to swim to shore in freezing water and a strong current. Hypothermia is attributed as a cause of death, but the obvious culprit is poking out of the couple dozen faces. ]

They're still working on pulling the bodies from the water.

"No, not really," he couldn't find it in him to care about how she'd left her parents, not with the level of casualness that she'd displayed about it.

"I'm busy, though."

And with that, he darts off to start trailing the woman...
dustonmyfeet: (seismic sense)

[personal profile] dustonmyfeet 2013-08-17 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Another smart mouth. . . . She'd give him a little respect for that. With a lift of the shoulders, she trails after him at a reasonable distance. He's not hard to track.
browbeater: Ooooooh it's too real. (Don't worry we love you more)

[personal profile] browbeater 2013-08-17 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
He isn't paying attention to her, anyway. He's trailing the woman, but once he sees the person he was looking for, he rushes forward, and snags her purse.

The response is immediate. "Hey! Get back here with that!" and then, "Help, my purse! My purse was stolen!"

Just when it seems Toph might have to step in, another kid rushes past, from seemingly no where.

"I'll get your purse back, ma'am!"

“A guard from the compound, duh.” She said unhelpfully.

“Yeah, I think we should see what it is. But you’re cold, so here.” And Korra pulled her jacket off over her head and tossed it at Mako, followed by her mittens. “But if you’re too cold, you can stay up here.”

Without hesitation, Korra jumped down into the hole.
alphatar: (Smiley hey happy)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-08-17 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
“Oh no, that’s okay. They’re kids, it’s what they do.” Doing her best not to stare at her, Korra smiled and waggled her fingers at Bolin. Never had she imagined what they looked like when they were younger. In her mind they had always looked like when she first met them.

“And no hello from you?” Korra asked with a smirk when she gave Mako a little wave. Fighting the urge to just pick him up wasn’t easy.
alphatar: (Stressed Worried Freaking Out)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-08-17 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
When she moved, Korra turned to her direction, the outline of each step she took was mapped out in her mind by the vibrations and Korra went to follow. The slick sound was sharp to her seismic sense, but the splash of water crashed around her ears because it was something she couldn’t see.

“Toph!” Korra shouted as she ran to where she had slipped and reached out, the water almost covered her toes.
alphatar: (Conversation iffy)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-08-17 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Weird wasn’t a strong enough word for Korra to use when she tried to take in this dream, let alone Amon not wanting to talk politics. That had been his main draw that amassed his Equalists followers. That sudden clap on her should had Korra look every bit the South Pole bumpkin she had on her first actual day in Republic City.

“Narook’s??” Korra asked in disbelief, her mouth fell slack as she went back to her first time there. To think that Amon would- but it did make sense. Best Water Tribe food in Republic City and he was from the North, and best of all it was affordable. As popular as the Fire Ferrets had been, Korra never saw a single yuan and she had always been fine with that.

“Um, sure. I could use a meal.“ It wasn’t any wonder now why non-benders flocked to Amon before she arrived. If anyone had been half as decent to her about getting a meal on her first day in the city, Korra would have- Well she did. Befriending Bolin after he helped her out was exactly what she had done.

“…You don’t have a lot of support yet, do you?” It was obvious just going by the run down state of the dragon flats borough as she accompanied Amon past the busted water pipe.

[That barrel roll had been way too fun due to the mischievous laugh she gave while it happened. She did stick her tongue out though when Jim asked her to stop, and grabbed her hand right when she was ready to repeat the button sliding pattern.]

Who’s worse than Spock now? [How she managed to speak clearly while sticking out her tongue was likely not in the Starfleet database.]

This is really cool, I’d like to learn all this stuff. [Feeling the need to fiddle with something, she rubbed her thumb over the cross on her badge. Medic.]

Okay, okay! Show me how to drive later. [A purple and gold nebulae came into view and Korra stared at it.] Is it really just a coincidence that everything that’s cool in your world just so happens to kill everyone?

[ She spends only a little time killing the unending stream of soldiers, until she grows bored with it. To her they are finite, and it's annoying to have to rinse and repeat. There's a sort of pressure in the air, like the world is about to take a huge breath, and all the technology completely fails. She speaks with five thousand years of voices, ringing and clear in unison, the coldness that comes with the length of time this part of her has existed for. It doesn't care, it just sort of... is. ]

Enough.

[ And then the pressure is lifted, expanding out from her. There's a ringing sound, and a sort of translucent and shimmering bubble expands from her, out. It catches the soldiers as it hits them, and they're pushed outward, as if the shimmering glass of the bubble is impenetrable. However, it simply sweeps around the Hulk, leaving him on the inside as it pulls the soldiers away from him. Even the tank is swept away, much like a leaf in a wind, effortlessly carried away. The whole process takes no more than ten seconds, and by the end the field is domed by the shield with no soldiers or weapons in sight. In fact, even Kincaid is gone and only the two of them remain. This time she speaks in a voice that is just her own as she walks toward him. ]

That's better.

He looked at the jacket and the mittens. She was crazy-- but he was cold. He wasn't going to say no to her generous offer of warm clothing. He pulled the jacket over his head, and then grabbed the mittens. He wasn't going to get left behind, no way!

"Hey, slow down!"

He soon followed suit. Hopefully, he didn't land on top of her.

Toph actually has no intention of stepping in. There's something at play here, and she's far more interested in knowing what than playing hero.

She can kind of see where the other kid came from, even though she definitely wasn't expecting him, either.

She continues trailing after them both, quickening her pace.
browbeater: Ooooooh it's too real. (Go go baby don't go.)

He stares at her for a moment, before finally muttering, "Hi..." It was hard to be super enthusiastic, when his little brother had gotten him in trouble. Again. But he was at least willing to step towards her, at least one little baby step. His mother seems to have relaxed somewhat, now that they weren't actively fighting.

"They're usually better behaved, but they both woke up on the wrong side of the bed today," she says with a smile. "But it'll be better when my husband meets us." Then he can deal with the fighting.

A little slide would bring Mako to where Korra's at. As for what she's holding, well that little white ball of fur is licking her laughing face.

"LOOK! It's a baby polar bear dog!"

She held the little thing out for Mako to inspect, it's black nose sniffing curiously at him. He was wearing her clothes, so they probably smelled the same to her.

"I think she's all alone."
browbeater: Ooooooh it's too real. (Don't worry we love you more)

[personal profile] browbeater 2013-08-18 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
They both run off into an alleyway-- which, she can probably see without seeing. It's the most affected fight ever, but the woman seem to buy it.

"Hey, this is mine! I got it!" Mako says, his hand shifted by his mouth to carry the sound towards her.

"No, we don't allow thieves in this part of the city!"

"Well, you're gonna have to fight me!"

They're benders. Perhaps she knew Mako was a firebender, but the other kid is an earth bender. They're not actually trying to fight each other, just put on a show. Which, the earthbender wins.

"Take it! I can't beat you!"

"That's right! I hope you've learned a lesson!!"

The earthbender trots back out with the purse.

"Oh thank you," says the woman. "Here, let me reward you..."

A shriek pierced through the air, but Korra's hands grasped nothing. The bank continued to get steeper just beyond Korra's toes, diving sharply downward. Toph thrashed in the the water, her splashing wild and uncoordinated. Now and then the sound was choked by a gasp as the girl went under, inhaling water into her lungs.

"Help!"
alphatar: (snerky smile)

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-08-18 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Hi Mako." she said with a smile as she bent over to look at him. Pinching his cheeks was hard to resist, but she managed. She wanted to partially because he was cute, and the other part was because it would be a private joke of her own.

"Oh. Right. Husband, their dad." Korra said as perfectly normal as possible, which came out clumsy anyway.

"Um, if you need a baby sitter, I can do it." Stepping into things she probably shouldn't have meant Korra really was acting the way the Avatar should.

Selina can't remember how she got here, but she's home. The next thing she knows, she's walking in through the front door of her East End apartment, and Holly's on the couch with a stack of DVDs and a box of microwave popcorn. It's just the end of any day, but Selina feels her chest heavy with a sense of relief just at the sight of her best friend. Somehow, she's even happier to see Holly than usual. Like she's been waiting all day to.

Holly laughs and tosses her the box of popcorn, and Selina catches it with a grin. Holly promises to pick the worst horror movie she's got, as long as Selina promises not to burn the popcorn. Selina promises, all right, laughing a little to herself as she slips into the kitchen to --

Her hands are empty and the air smells suddenly of ancient dust, the sort that Selina's apartment has never seen. The warm, quiet glow of home has dissipated entirely, replaced with something else vaguely familiar. This is Bruce's room, back at Wayne Manor. She recognizes it, but she doesn't have a chance to register what exactly feels different about it before she sees Bruce and the broken mirror and blood. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't at least a little alarmed.

"You might want to do something about that," she suggests lightly, unwinding the scarf from around her neck as she steps toward him.

That wasn't what he was expecting. He steps back from the polarbeardog, and looks around. How could she be sure it was alone? "What if its mom is coming back with food, though..." It seemed way too risky to him. That was asking to be eaten up for sure.

Even if it was cute.

[Tarrlok's first instinct was to take down Yakone, now that he was more than capable of it. Give him what he had always deserved. It would be cathartic, to say the least.

But Yakone wasn't really here, and there was no point in chasing after an illusion. The person who was here was...well, someone Tarrlok wasn't really up to facing. Adult Noatak was difficult enough even though he'd changed so much. The brother he actually remembered, the brother he had let run away alone, was much more difficult.

He just stood like he was frozen for a while before saying anything, hoping he'd be taken away from this place.]
