Event | Sinbrilee | Bacchanal

Characters: Any and all!
Date: August 24 - 30th
Location: Sinbrilee
Situation: An ancient festival of an ancient city, all are welcome at the Bacchanal!
Warnings/Rating: Please label threads as appropriate.

Death and destruction cannot curtail the single most important festival celebrated by the denizens of Sinbrilee: The Bacchanal! The ghosts in and about the city have begun to gossip about high fashion and festivities, sending any that inquire to the Amphitheatre -- a grand, circular structure nestled in the west side of the city.

This structure bore the fall of Sinbrilee and the wear of time with dignity, having lost handfuls of archways and one long stretch of wall to crumbling decay. Despite this, it is obvious that the amphitheatre once hosted many a display and every more festivities than the mind can grasp. This was their solace and safety; here is where the people of Sinbrilee came to find the mind's escape from all that threatened them and their great turtle.

Ghosts have been busy throughout the week, clearing paths through debris and hanging great cloth banners of soft blues and greens to disguise the more blatant signs of its decline. Many hundreds of them shimmer and slid through the area, providing for tables upon tables of food, offering drink, and overseeing competition of sport and skill (some even denying death's non-corporeal curse to enter).

Here, well... Here is where the party begins!

Please, everyone knows that the days you're supposed to have off of work are when everything happens.

[ That gets an eyeroll, but it's decidedly fond. It's so rare she gets time off from work without interruption and gets to do something fun like this. It's one of the good things about being here. But then she gives him an "r u serious" look. ]

Have you never played Monopoly? When you land on Free Parking, you get the money in the middle of the board.

Is that right? [Dick laughs.] And here I thought that it's the days that you work that everything happens. Definitely feels that way, everything piles up.

[A day off from work doesn't happen for Dick. Not unless he's so sick he can't do anything, or injured. And even then, that won't stop him. He's gone on patrols with a bad arm, taking it out of a sling and pretending it's fine. But the look he gives her is just bewildered.]

I've played Monopoly! But never with money in the middle of the board.

Well there's never any shortage of work, but the worst stuff always happens when I'm supposed to be doing something wonderful on my day off.

[ There's never a shortage of shit hitting the fan, never. ]

You put the tax money in the middle.

[ She rolls her eyes a bit and shrugs. ]

Must be a difference between our worlds.

I'm sorry to hear that. [And he is. Something terrible happening on a day off? Come on. he might not have them, but he can definitely sympathize.]

Probably a difference, but also probably I play with people who throw rules out the window, no matter what the game. [He laughed.] By the way, what do you do? I've never asked that yet, and here we are dancing. I should probably have an idea.

[ Teasing: ] Oh, what, you don't like dancing with people you hardly know?

[ But really, what does she do... It's always so hard to describe what Fringe Division does, she's used to people just knowing. ]

Well, I work for a subset of the Department of Defense known as Fringe Division. When weird things happen, mostly when people die in weird ways, we deal with that. Investigate what happened, how it happened, catch the perpetrators. Nothing fantastic, but I like it. What about you?

I'm terrified of dancing with someone I hardly know. [He laughs, grinning broadly at her.] What happens if I'm dancing with the queen of Planet Mongo, or a highly paid assassin?

[He teases her back, but is quiet as he listens to what she does.] So, you work for the government in finding really weird things. And that's not fantastic? It sounds pretty fancy to me, does that mean I should call you agent? [More teasing.]

Well... do you want to know what I was doing before I came here, or what I've done? Because there's some big differences.

Well, I'm queen of my own world, but don't be overly concerned about that. [ Yeah, she actually said that. ]

Usually people only call me "Agent Dunham" when there's a corpse. So unless you've got a corpse for me to investigate, not really.

And I would love to know both, considering most of what I've been doing here has been trying to open a bakery.
