And then everything burned
Characters:Date: October 13th/14th, late night until early morning.
Location: Earth Sector
Situation: Liz has a pyrokinetic episode in her sleep, and things will get burned. Details can be found in the OOC post I made here.
Warnings/Rating: Fire, things (and kedan) being burned, and potential character injury. This is not going to be a happy funtimes log.
Notes: The only buildings that will be completely burned down are EA-1A and a couple of kedan buildings. Everything else as far as damage and injuries go is up to you!
It had been the same as always. An attempt to sleep had ended in nightmares – visions of crumbling buildings, dead bodies, and monsters wandering through the ruins of what one stood there.
“Now you see, don’t you? The enormity of it.”
Liz whirled around to see who was speaking to her - No. No, no, no.
“Shut up!” She glared and pointed at him, she loathed the man standing before her – robes, eyes, face, hands, that ridiculous Fu Manchu moustache, and all. “You’re not... you can’t be here! You never showed up before, so why are you coming here now!?”
“I’m not lying to you, Miss Sherman. I’ve never lied, and you will never know me to lie. Not to you.”
“... Wait.” Her arm went down, “No. You’re not here.”
“Oh, no.” His expression fell, and he ventured closer and closer to Liz until he passed through her completely, “This won’t do at all.”
“You’re not here. You’ve said those exact things to me before. This... this is just a part of my dream.”
He said nothing, but smiled - why was he smiling - before fading away.
“He’s not here, Lizzie.” She stiffened as she felt a touch to her arm, “But we are.”
“... Mommy?”
“Of course, baby. We’re all here.”
She wasn’t 44, anymore. There were no monsters, no dead people, no crumbled buildings, or anything like that. It was 1973. She was 11 years old – it was a good day. Liz was at someone’s birthday party. Everyone was there, even her friends and family. Hellboy was chatting up her father, her brother Will was chasing Rin with a bb gun, and her mother was right beside her, holding her hand.
It was a good day.
Her mother looked down at her and smiled, “You’re having a good time, Lizzie?”
“Yup!” Liz smiled right back – of course, she was having a good time. Everything was great. There were balloons, toys, cake, and everybody was having fun. She barely even noticed Hellboy saying goodbye to her father and leaving. Her expression only changed once she saw her mother bring out something she was hiding behind her back.
“Then can you tell me what this is?”
It was a Barbie. Charred, missing hair, melted in places, and it was all her fault. Because Liz was the one who burned it.
“I...” No. No, everything was fine. It was a good day. Her mother wasn’t asking her this. Not now, not here, not where everyone could see them. Liz shook her head and looked at her father, “Where’s Hellboy?”
“He had to go, sweetheart. Said he had things to take care of.”
Liz shook her head again, “But why? Why did he have to go? He should have stayed!”
“A man’s got his damn reasons, Elizabeth!” Liz flinched as her father continued to shout at her, “He’s got better things to do than sit around and play with a little girl and her pals all day!”
“But...” She sniffled quietly and felt her eyes well up with tears, “But he can’t go!”
Hellboy shouldn’t have left, but he did anyway. Liz stepped away from her parents and began to look around for Rin. He hadn’t left, yet. He was still there – he said she was his big sister. He had to be there. It was a minute before she finally noticed him, backed up against the wooden fence, eyes wide as the rest of the party guests began to surround him.
Liz’ brother dropped the toy gun and walked up beside her, “He called you his sister.”
“What?” She used her hand to wipe her eyes, but didn’t look away. Something was wrong.
“Rin. He called you his sister, didn’t he?”
“Yeah, but...” Liz watched as the people surrounding Rin began to change. Their skin stretched and tore open, revealing new, green skin. Their teeth were sharp, their eyes wide and green, their tongues long and dangerous, and they screamed. God, how they screamed.
“I don’t understand, Will!”
“Don’t you get it, Lizzie? Having family isn’t good for you.”
The frog monsters swarmed Rin; piling on top of him and they were screaming and he was screaming and this was wrong. This was wrong. It was a good day. This couldn’t have been happening.
”RIN!!!”
Will reached out to grasp Liz and promptly turned her around to face him, “Remember what happened to us before?”
Burned. Her mother, her father, and Will... they were all burned. Nothing but blackened flesh and skin clinging to exposed bones, and it was all her fault. Because Liz was the one who killed them.
“Tell me, Elizabeth Sherman. Whom do you trust?”
She screamed, and in that moment, her world went up in flames.
[OOC: And with that TL;DR nightmare out of the way, THE BURNING HAS BEGUN! Do as you will, turtle people!]
