[OPEN EVENT] Weekend Winter Wonderland

Characters: All?
Date: March 8th-11th
Location: All of Keeliai
Situation: It's been a stressful month thus far for a lot of people, but Jack is determined to Make All The Happy and decides he needs to get back to his wintery roots by giving the city a proper snowing.
Warnings/Rating: People high on snow glitter?
NOTES: Actionspam OR prose, whatever is preferred! (Settings were just easier to prose.) Make your own thread headers if none of these suit! ♥

Jack had spent the last three hours balanced motionlessly on the top of a flagpole, head tilted back as he listened to the wind and the sound of the city below. Where is Winter? it asked. I'm here! the spirit replied, but he knew it didn't mean his physical presence. He'd had too much on his mind and too much in his heart and in that sense he had indeed been absent these last few weeks.

Eyes closed and thoughtlessly trusting, he tipped forward into open air, letting the wind catch him and hurl him upward into the misty cloud cover that scudded across the stars tonight. At his touch they thickened, fat and pale grey against the indigo backdrop and Jack swirled them up, the motions so ingrained in him they felt just like breathing. In the small hours of the morning snowflakes began to fall on the sleeping city, specks at first but then quickly becoming heavier.

Now with a fresh canvas to work with, Jack was really in his element. He could never have done something like this back home, not anywhere in his world. It would have been too strange, too inexplicable, drawn too much attention. But here on the turtle, things were different. There wasn't really a semblance of normal and Jack poured his imagination and heart into the things he wanted most to share, and from the snow rose gleaming swirls of snow and blue light, forming things of exceptional detail and delight.

By the time the sun rose, a solid three feet of the snow had blanketed the city, glistening and crisp and Jack went rocketing down the streets, rapping on doors and windows to leave spirals of frost on every surface.

"Whooohoo! Snow day! Get up sleepyheads, everyone come out and play!"

[Jehan laughs when he's hit by the snow, brushing it off and joining Temeraire]

It is a game and--what on Earth is the inspector doing?

[Forget manners. Jehan just stares]
dracobin: (looking up)

[personal profile] dracobin 2013-03-10 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Temeraire stares, too, because he's been trying to figure that out for the last fifteen minutes.

Of course Jehan would know M. Javert, since they are both from Paris, so it follows that he must be one of the Amis as well, although that is admittedly a little more difficult to picture.]

I am not sure. But he looks very serious about it, does he not?
poeticverses: (For LaMarque!)

[personal profile] poeticverses 2013-03-10 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
He calls us children for our barricade, spies on us for the police, and then he partakes in a snowball fight.

[Jehan is appalled]

Hypocrite!
dracobin: (taken aback)

[personal profile] dracobin 2013-03-10 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, that

was

an abrupt change in the mood.

Temeraire's head swivels back, eyes large with confusion.]

He is not one of your Amis?

[...How on Earth did Temeraire come to the conclusion the Javert was an Ami?]

No, although he pretended to side with us at LaMarque's funeral and the barricade before he was found out.
dracobin: (uncertain)

[IT WAS A LOGICAL CONCLUSION you're all French and from the same time period ok]

Oh, [he says uncertainly. Javert was a little brusque, perhaps, when they met, but he knew his work and seemed a terribly honest sort, even to the point of rudeness. To picture him as any kind of spy is almost as difficult as picturing him as one of Jehan's friends, but Jehan certainly has no reason to lie to him about this. Still, he can't help but feel a little betrayed himself, and his ruff mantles a little as he stares down at the fort, thinking of the last French spy he had known, and what had become of him.]

Well, that was very low of him, to spy like that; if he did not like what you were doing, he had no right to lie to you, and pretend he did, especially when there were more of his men and fewer of yours.

That is how the National Guard and the police operate. They did not approve of our revolution and sought to stop it. They succeeded, that time, but we've been told by several people that France is free in the future so they did not stop us for good.

[He was climbing this particular snow peak or whatever it may be with the intention of scouting for Gavroche. The Gamin had one side, him the other, and the game was on. He picked this particular perch because he heard Jehan's voice but hadn't bothered to look up. Now that he's somehow managed it though, his attempt at getting Jehan's attention and interrupting his conversation is cut short.]

Salut, Jehan--

[So much so that he almost slips and falls back down the way he climbed.]

Mon Dieu that's a dragon. Christ in Heaven, Jehan, how hard did you wish?

[personal profile] poeticverses 2013-03-10 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Jehan turns at Grantaire's voice, in time to grab his arm and haul him up the hill]

Hello, Grantaire. Grantaire, this is Temeraire. Temeraire, Grantaire. He is one of Les Amis de l'ABC.

[Best just get that out of the way]
dracobin: (pleased)

[personal profile] dracobin 2013-03-10 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Temeraire peers down, clearly amused, and offers a careful bob of his head.]

Hello, Grantaire, it is very nice to meet you.
cynisme: (do you hear the people sing)

[Alright, in retrospect, a talking dragon isn't so far away from human-sized talking turtles. He can handle this, no big deal.]

Likewise. I'll return to you [He says with a point to the dragon in question] in a moment, but first. Jehan, think of the fun you could be having making our dear Inspector Javert's life a terribly wet and snowy one.

[Jehan blinks before breaking out into a slow grin]

Are you suggesting we attack the inspector with snowballs?
dracobin: (uncertain)

[personal profile] dracobin 2013-03-11 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Temeraire is still a little dubious about causing actual harm to a man who has been nothing but helpful to him, spy or otherwise, but a snowball fight is certainly something very different. Surely that wouldn't count.

Besides, there's something strangely infectious about the relentless good cheer in this part of the city. He offers hesitantly:]

That is the purpose of the fort, is it not, to repel an attack? He is clearly ready for one, since he has built it so well, so it is only fair that we test it.

[Dragon logic!]
cynisme: (converse)

[Thank you, dragon. Grantaire holds a hand out in Temeraire's direction, as evidence of the proper response.]

Keep up, Prouvaire. The dragon's on-board, I don't see why you are not.

Did I say I was not? We need more men, though. I am not very good at snowballs.
dracobin: (pleased)

[personal profile] dracobin 2013-03-17 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
But there are only three of them in the fort, and three of us, so it is at the very least an even match; although I expect I may tip the balance a little in our favour, even if you say you are not very good.

Gavroche is doing what he can down below, you know the kid can get over any wall he wants, Jehan.

As for you, Monsieur. [He says as he pats Temeraire's side. Because why not.] You count for two men and a horse.
