Open RP/Catch-All: IXIS NAUGUS
Characters: Ixis Naugus and You! Anyone! Come on down!
Date: All of January
Location: His home is in the Earth Sector (2D) and he’s easily found there. He can also show up most anywhere if you wanted to name a new location to run into him. He’s sneaky and keen on exploring, be it by foot, air or shadows. Whatever you want, man, I’m here for YOU.
Situation: Catch-all! Open RP! Confrontation! Anything!
Warnings/Rating: None presently.
The earth sector gained a very unusual resident earlier this month and it seemed it only took him a few days to get cozy. The only exterior change to the unit is the absence of a door. In its place is several faceted green gems, thick and flat, all irising inwards to make an opaque, jagged barrier. There is no doorknob, no hinges, sliding mechanisms, nothing discernible as a way to open it.
Inside, should anyone get to see it, has changed just as drastically as the entrance. Every surface is a single, cohesive one. Shelves cut into the stone wall itself, tables sprouting from the same, stairs hewn in earth with bannisters of emerald green. Seams of the crystal are visible in all surfaces as well, forming more delicate objects and elaborations. Overall, the mage has terraformed his whole suite, morphing the earthen material into a lair more to his liking, changing and contorting it to crystal where earth may not be present. Runes are inscribed into walls, circles reminiscent of alchemy etched in green on the floor.
The only exception to this transformation is the terminal, the area around it obviously untouched, as well as the device itself.
The mage has been busy and he is pleased with the fruits of his labour.
((Shoot me a PM if you’d like to RP! I’m more than happy to accept or make a set-up for your character and any character. :] ))

Standing a little ways outside the door, or lack of, Sarah checks and double checks the address he'd given her. Only way to find out if she's got the right apartment is to knock. Or well, she would if there were a door. Sarah settles for the next best thing she can think of.
"Hello..?" she calls out, voice a little quieter than planned. "I'm uh, looking for Mister Naugus?"
no subject
Naugus' ears perk upright in surprise when he recognizes who's come to call, which is good, because he originally wore a look of annoyance at being disturbed.
"Oh! Ms. Sarah! It seems you've managed to find me."
no subject
And then he's there, and Sarah sighs with relief. This time she doesn't flinch, even if his appearance is more than a little startling. The girl lifts a hand in a half-wave and smiles a little.
"Hey there. Hope I'm not interrupting anything?"
no subject
The mage smiles and gives the girl an overly dramatic bow. Twirl of the claw, rest it on his chest, then dip down.
"Not at all! Are you traveling alone, though?" He straightens and looks up and down the street past Sarah, wondering and hoping to spot some kind of adult supervision. When he spies none, he looks down at her again, sighing. "Still no appointed caregiver, I take it?"
no subject
At his question, Sarah shakes her head and shrugs her shoulders. "Nope, just me today. I've met a few people around that are helping me out but I kinda wanted to look around a bit today."
no subject
Is he among these adults? He might not consider himself if asked, but Sarah DID come to visit him and he IS showing concern for her wellbeing.
"Come in, if you'd like, child. I can prepare something to eat if you have not already." Naugus waves her in towards the open archway where the crystal wall had previously been blocking. "You can tell me what you've seen of the turtle thus far."
Immediate entry into his suite already demonstrates it's not your typical living space, even for one in the earth sector. Everything being fused to or springing from a cohesive stone surface being the biggest clue. Though it's not craggy and rough-hewn like a cave wall would be, there is still a textural sense that this was shaped and formed, not carved. Also, green crystals everywhere, filling cracks and making seams in every surface, as well as being the material many ornaments and tools are crafted from.
no subject
Baby steps are how she'll get through this. Sarah's just going to focus on one thing at a time. Visiting Naugus however is something of a treat to herself.
At the invitation to come inside, Sarah starts forward and stops just outside the door, staring up at it in awe. "Mr. Naugus, did you do all this?"
no subject
The mage looks over the door and decides to reform the gem wall with a wave of his staff, but this time with a functioning doorknob and hinges. He'd feel kind of weird if it seemed he was trapping Sarah in here. It doesn't even matter if she notices the difference in barriers, he feels better with this being the case anyhow. Barely appears to take him any effort anyhow.
His crafting doesn't stop there either. Naugus makes his way to what appears to be the eating and food-preparing alcove and takes a moment to wave his staff again. A shimmering, a crackling and a crystalline stool for Sarah to sit at the table takes form! Who needs furniture when you can make whatever you need off the cuff?
"Work? Good, good to keep yourself occupied. Keep yourself productive!" Naugus is rummaging at his shelves and cupboards now (also all crystal and earth or a mix of both), seeing what he has available.
no subject
In passing through the door into his home, she can't help but run a hand along the door frame. Barely, she suppresses her excitement at touching real live magic, though it still shows a little on her face. Once inside she stops and stares.
"Wow. This is... Whoa." It's the best she can manage.
Eyes still on everything around her, and brain still processing that holy shit yes he did actually just make that stool appear from nowhere, Sarah slides onto the seat.
"S-sorry?" Sarah stammers, realizing full well that she's been so absorbed in the magic she's hardly heard a word he's said.
no subject
Naugus doesn't take a seat as well just yet; he rummages some more and comes up with a small kettle, one of the few things likely not crafted by him, going by the kedan-style paint and designs on it. Crystal doesn't heat well and earthen pots ruin the taste. Water is conjured with a point of the finger, the stove lit with a snap of the finger. The mage does it all quickly and casually enough that it's clear this is just standard procedure for him. Magic's the only way to get things done. Once the kettle's put onto boil, he leans an elbow on the table, claw hooking on his belt.
"Also, tell me of what you've seen of the turtle so far! I have been falling behind in my own exploring."
no subject
She's a little disappointed with herself for not having a better answer. Here he is doing all this amazing stuff and that's the best she's got. "I'll work something out though. Maybe I can bug Ellie to teach me to hunt like she does. Or help out in a shop or something!"
Nibbling away at the crackers, Sarah watches him work, forever in awe of what Ixis can do. "I've mostly just been looking around the wood sector, so far at least. Just uh, working out where everything is. There's some really cool people here too!"
no subject
The kettle's started to whistle by now and Naugus turns back to the stove to fetch it. Tea leaves are dropped into two crystal cups with his good hand, while the kettle hangs from his claw by its handle. And then he's soon back over to the table, setting one cup in front of Sarah and the other in front of him. "Let it steep, child," he warns. Don't drink tea before it's tea! Besides, it's hot.
"But fear not, I've already offered my services to the Emperor as a court mage!" Naugus says once he's finally settled in a conjured seat of his own. "I served under two different kings back in my prime zone, you know. I was both generations' chief magical adviser." He puffs up with pride. Yeah, he's a pretty big deal back home.
no subject
She's torn from her thoughts when the tea is set before her, and Sarah nods at the instructions that come with it. "Yep, got it," comes the reply, even if she wonders just how long is long enough.
Sarah settles for following his actions in regards to tea. She can't mess up if she's playing copycat, can she?
As Ixis continues, Sarah's attention quickly shifts back to his each and every word. There's no missing what a big deal he is back home and she immediately feels like she's in the company of a celebrity. After all, Ixis worked for kings. She looks to him with awe.
"Are you... So whoa, you're kinda really important where you come from, huh?" And older than she thought. "Have you had many apprentices? Did you teach the king magic?"
no subject
He frowns a little, thinking back to said apprentice. Naugus had been pulled from Mobius just when things were falling into place, and then falling back out of place thanks to the Doctor's superweapon. When would Naugus go back? Would he be the same person then, with the same ambitions? It could be years before he's returned! Though he's no stranger to agonizingly long waiting games while displaced...
He shakes his head to clear this line of thought and takes a sip of tea. "But yes. I'm quite important where I come from. I served King Frederick until his son, Maximilian, took to the throne and I continued to serve him. I watched the prince grow from a child to a upstanding ruler! Though when war began, things grew a little complex. The king and I both were exiled to a harsh land and he needed my magic to survive. I granted it readily and in his gratitude, he swore knighthood and fealty to me, promising me the Kingdom of Acorn when we returned! So not only am I a powerful elementalist, a court mage, but a destined wizard-king as well!"
He could talk about himself and how cool he is for a good long while, really.
no subject
At the announcement he's to be king, Sarah about spits said tea everywhere. A hand to her mouth is all that saves both of them.
"Y-you're gonna be king!?" With all that's been happening lately, she really shouldn't be surprised to hear something like this, but Sarah is caught way off guard.
"I mean, when you get the kingdom back. How... are you gonna do that? Exile doesn't sound good, and if there's a war going on then..." It's sad, in her opinion.
no subject
He swirls his tea, the crystal glass delicately pinched between his claw. "So yes, a great deal going on in my prime zone when I was plucked up, but I will set it to rights upon my return. And what of you, Ms. Sarah? Is yours a world of only Overlanders like yourself? I suspect that is the case for many here. Alas and alack, to be the odd man out!" He dramatically covers his eyes in faux distress.
no subject
"Home is... well. Yeah, it's just overlanders." She pauses. "I think." And frowns. "...You might need to break down the term for me. Just to make sure I've got this right."
no subject
"Overlanders are, uh. Well, like you! No fur, no spines, no tails, dry noses, rather tall. Pink and brown, round ears, a preference for technology. Why, what are they called in your realm?"
no subject
"Oh! Alright, yeah. Yeah we're all overlanders. Everyone's like me. I mean... well, there's no one like you back home," she replies, silently hoping not to offend.
no subject
"I confess I was a mite put off when I saw the abundance of Overlanders in this realm. My people, the Mobians, do not get along well with them. There have been wars but we do our best to keep to our own affairs. Mingling is discouraged for these reasons. But as I said, I am aware I am the minority here and a guest every bit as much as the rest of us. And we are all allies, species differences or not. It did a great deal to put me at ease."
no subject
"Well, maybe it's good that we're all here then. I mean, you get to hang out with overlanders in a safe zone." A beat. Sarah shrugs. "Safe... ish. You know what I mean."
Or at least, she hopes he knows what she means. Again she sips at her tea and motions to it. "This is really good too. I forgot to say that before. I always have tea at home. Dad says I'm too young for coffee but I think I'm just fine."
no subject
"And I suppose that's true. I am amongst your kind whether I like it or not. I should probably cast aside past distrust and biases if this land's war is to result in our victory. Thus far, I have found your kind to be...surprisingly diverse? There are beastly people and irritating people amongst the decent and the competent." He states this like it's some kind of surprise.
no subject
His surprise makes her tilt her head in question. "Isn't it the same for you? I mean, personality wise?"
no subject
"Geoffrey is an example of one who can be trusted. Uma was as well, rest her soul. The poor woman did not deserve such a wretched end, but at least her offspring saw her legacy fulfilled. Before they also met an undeserved fate. Erm." He scratches his forehead. That's actually a huge bummer now that he thinks on it properly! "...I did not mean to be so morbid. My apologies."
no subject
"It's okay," she says, voice quiet. "I'm sorry you lost anyone."
