An Assassin In Keeliai.: Arno Open
Characters: Arno Dorian and YOU!
Date: April Catch All
Location: Throughout Keeliai, notably the hotel, a trashy bar, and the market.
Situation: 3 Openings throughout the month, or PM/Plurk me to choose your own adventure!
Option A. The Midnight Hotel:
[Like any instinct one has lived with for a long time, Arno's is to find high ground, and a clear view of just about any obstacles he might face. In order to get that, one must climb. He's avoided trying his skills on the hotel so far, having heard the place is somehow magical. All skepticism aside, he does know better than to mess with anything that has properties he cannot entirely identify. Well, most of the time.
At the moment, though, his better senses have taken a bit of a side trip, which is, of course, naturally, the reason why he's attempting it now, though something keeps him from reaching the top, and as it does, he finds himself dropping off by no fault of his own. The first attempt makes him only more determined to try again, and then another. It's becoming evident, though, that every time he IS pushed off the surface, it is into a different area, a different sector, of the city. ]
Merde [He's cursing once, before it hits him. Come to think of it, the hotel could provide a possibility. Should he manage not to be noticed in any of the districts, particularly those with a larger population, it would make for some excellent practice ground, and he can claim a method to his madness. Of course, considering he's looking like a bit of an idiot here, maybe not. But, please, let him know if he's spotted anyway. He could use a critique, honestly.]
Option B: A Pub
[If there's one thing Arno appreciates, it's the fact that, as much as the kedan don't seem to like them very much, there ARE still places to drink here. He's been in almost constant need of a drink for the couple months he's been here, and, by now, he's become a regular at a fairly trashy little pub, which, sadly, has an equally trashy little wine selection. At the moment, he can be found either at the bar itself, or, more likely, perched at a table in the corner, leaning back on two rungs of his chair, dirty boots propped up on the surface of the table itself, and a half finished glass in hand. Occasionally, he's calling out to passers by, those who look a little gullible, admittedly.]
I've a pair of dice and deck of cards! [He's calling out every so often, rocking back in the chair, and looking fairly smug as he does that.] Any takers, perhaps?
Option C: The Market
[Arno may have his phantom blade back on his wrist and a selection of bolts for it at the ready, but he presumes he'll need more at some time, and he's also entertaining ideas for a new sort of weapon, especially after speaking to Aya and trying to help her cool down. Still, the basic goods that he's securing to attempt messing around with his idea are a little strange. At the moment, he's inspecting fans, wooden, paper, silk, debating the best sort to use, and purchasing rather a lot of them, though you don't want to know where he got the Juulan, really. At any rate, it IS starting to look a little...odd. And that's before he's started looking at the available knife blades, even. As of now, he can be spotted inspecting the goods, and haggling a little over the price of a particular fan, silk screened, with the image of a turtle. It's...interesting to watch him try to charm the kedan, if nothing else.]

C
[Especially after he ends up buying what looks like a dozen of them. Or is it a dozen dozen? A gross image that, if it were true.
[But as Arno starts heading off from the stall selling the fans, Sokka will start heading after him. After all, he seemed pretty nice.]
I'd ask if you were trying to cool off with all those fans, but it still feels half like winter, y'know.
Re: C
He does stop at the question, and actually looks...amused]
Ah or I could have plans to present to the lovely ladies I've found here who could use them. Or... [There is an eyedart.] another purpose entirely.

[That's... quirky!]
I mean, one of the girls I dated back in my world already had two of them on her own... and she used them as weap—
[Pause.]
—ons.
[Welp, looks like he just realised what they might be for.]

[Arno's eyes light up there, and it is probably painfully obvious what he's hoping to do, yes.]
Then it has been done somewhere! I was thinking, yes, of a particular kind of lady. The sort who must [Disguise herself and infiltrate high society with a reasonable amount of personal protection.] travel in places large weapons are inconvenient.
And yes, fans can be favors too. But I was hoping I could blend a bit of both together...
no subject
But I still reckon it's possible to find some way to make 'em work!

I'm guessing you don't want it obvious that there's anything sharp in there at all, huh? At least until the moment that it's really necessary.
Some sort of contraption to make metal tips appear and disappear at will?

These DO have a bit of framework to be looked it, but in terms of what it might do...
[Arno's glancing around, then, when it's clear no one's really paying attention, shifting so that his left hand, and the phantom blade, which looks more like a gauntlet at this point is there in Sokka's face.]
I was hoping to come up with something that's a little more like...
[There's a slightly dramatic, maybe melodramatic pause as he casually activates the blade portion of the weapon, looking rather smug abut it too.]
A little more like this.

[And the expression on his face is going to be comically concerned.
[But being visibly startled only lasts a moment, and Sokka begins to inspect the device a little more closely. He can't see the whole of the device, and he'd need to play with it in his hands to really make sense of it and reverse engineer it, but that doesn't mean that he's not already coming up with ideas.]
Iiiiinteresting. Hmmm, I mean, to make something like this, you're going to need a metal ribbing in the blades of the fan to begin with. Most of these will probably have to be deconstructed and reassembled, but...
[Half of this is spoken just to himself, but he's also verbalising it to Arno as if to say that he's figuring out his own plan for how to create it.]
no subject
He probably ought to be a little concerned when Sokka gets that look on his face, and starts musing about it, but then again, it's not as though it's passed through no one else's hands here.]
Sadly, I don't have the blueprints. And you may have competition. It turned up on the last landfall, and I had to barter it back. There IS a drawback though...
[He's de-pressing the mechanism, and never has he been gladder that the design doesn't reveal his intact left right finger than in this moment.]
You have to compensate so the mechanism can fit just so. They make it very ceremonial though, the ritual amputation.
[Getting real tired of your shit, Leonardo...]no subject
In other words, someone else could start making these any day and selling them to spirits know who, right?
[Yeah, that's such a happy little thought. But still...]
Kind of a bummer that it requires the loss of my one finger. [He shows his ring finger, which contains a ring with his soul gem on it.] Certainly means I wouldn't be allowed two of them, right? [Cheeky grin.]
That's kind of a devious thing if you manage to get close to your enemies and need to take 'em out. Course, the bending used in my world pretty much makes that almost impossible. And that's... a little more deadly than I'd generally prefer to go.
But the mechanics of it are interesting. I could certainly try to whip up a design for you.
