Location: Turtle's Head
Situation: Zatanna has a theory. With a little help from some new friends and some not-so-new friends, she's about to test that theory out...

Note: This Log with be separated into three parts. First will be the Pre-Spell Mingle, which is exactly what it sounds like. Characters will be given the opportunity to meet and greet with one another, discuss their respective magics, theories as to what might happen, etc. The second will be the Spell Casting, where each character involved will be given the opportunity to show off his/her/their stuff.

The third part of the Log will be the Results/Aftermath. Basically, once I have word from the mods how the Spell Casting will go, the subheader will be edited to include every last detail. From there, characters will be given the chance to react accordingly.

Duke

Duke is, perhaps as usual, acting like an observer. He's mostly watching people gather and prepare with absent curiosity.

He does settle off to the side when he feels his curiosity is sated for the moment, his Dein Nomos across his lap as he double checks the strangely shaped blade is clean. That could be a little hard for Duke to do, given the blade is giving off light while he's holding it. He's only got most of his attention on the sword, paying attention to anyone who gets close.

"So," Jack said, nodding at the sword with a grin. "That must be kind of a challenge, going through turnstiles and revolving doors with that thing."

Duke stares blankly for a moment. He can figure out what revolving doors are, but no idea what turnstiles are. Something that turns, clearly, and apparently you walk through them and having a sword wouldn't make it any easier.

"It isn't." Duke picks the sword up and reverses his grip - angling the blade up along his arm instead of the normal forward. And then his hand is empty.

... He realizes it might have been a sort of humor after that, but oh well, too late.

Jack leans way back, as if expecting the thing to suddenly come back out of wherever Duke's stashed it, like a jack in the box reaching it's pop point.

"Okay, that's convenient. Weird, but convenient."

"Perhaps my application of it is, but this is a lot more comfortable than trying to put the sword in a pocket." Particularly because that would just look really weird. Carefully trying to cut his pants open from a pocket.

... Maybe he should do that once, just for the reactions. No, he's usually considered odd enough already.

"Plus it keeps the work-inappropriate jokes to a minimum," Jack wisecracked.

Duke stares blankly for about half a minute before he just slowly puts his face in his hands.

That was a dick joke, he just got it. "Or those."

[ Duke's reaction just makes Jack laugh; hopefully Duke gets at least a little humour out of it. ]

C'mon, that can't be the first time that's come up.

I am certain if I phrased things like that around another I know, it would have.

[ Yuri probably would made a similar joke. Or perhaps Raven- ]

... But I haven't exactly spent a great deal of time around people recently.

Everybody should have at least one friend that makes those kind of jokes.

[ Jack laughs a little when Duke said he hadn't spent time around people. ]

Hey, I know that feeling. By choice, or...?

[ There's a not-really smile twitch at the mention of friends who make jokes.

Lowell isn't a friend, exactly.... ]

Choice. I found that most of the people I would have to interact with if I didn't leave, I couldn't stand.

[ That's an understatement. ]

[ Jack nodded; he had a similar feeling about some of the less-friendly spirits he'd run into over the years. ]

Yeah, I know that one. Everybody needs some downtime, you know?

[ Leave for some down time, out in the woods? That would be accurate- ]

One way to put it.

[ Duke's barely-there response makes Jack utter a soft "heh". ]

Right. Not much for conversation, huh? I'll leave you to your sword...ing.

Happens when you only have yourself to converse with.

[ At least he's aware that he's a mess socially, due to not socializing?

But he sort of.. nods, acknowledging that Jack's going to go elsewhere soon. ]
