A. [Gene] throughout Keeliai | past the first week of May onwards | open
Gene is continuing to be his political self, gladhanding among the kedan and putting his unique skills of gang interaction to use to put together the nascent police force. But when he thinks nobody's watching, he looks pensive - especially over tea in one of the many teahouses, which he seems to frequent more often of late. Better than alcohol, at least?

B. [Jackie] the Golden Koi | throughout May | open
After the attack last month, Jackie doesn't go anywhere without someone else. The rogue Snakes aren't going to attack him unless he's alone. But at least his bar seems to be doing decent business, even if he's still operating at a loss for now. That part's worrying him. But he tries not to let it show, even to Leo.

C. [Peridot] Keeliai and Tavimbi | throughout May | open
Peridot, meanwhile, is continuing to scavenge. She wants to rebuild her limb enhancers, or something like them, after her talk with Bisi...and maybe something nice for Shay. She's haggling with merchants and, due to her short temper, often getting very annoyed. There's something amusing about a tiny green dorito getting mad at someone twice her size.

D. [Deon] the College | throughout May | open
The College is a safe zone for Deon, who's still wary of working on any pet projects at Stark Industries. Tetravaal had made him too leery of that. He can often be found in one of the labs, working on a design for a robot, or hand-writing some code to make sure he's got it right.

E. [Gene] House Spicy Iron Dragon | late April-first week of May | closed to Tony and Pepper
Gene has decided to live as a bed from now on.

Zhang's arrival had really shaken him up. What he'd done to Zhang had shaken him up more, when he'd had the chance to think about it instead of acting in anger. When he's not living as a bed, he's building a little stone shrine in the back garden where he's buried the extra purple ring and set up the framed photograph of his mother, and when it's done, sitting in front of it, burning incense and thinking.

F. [Jackie] the Dojo | early May | closed to Brigid
Jackie had said he'd wanted to learn Krav Maga from Brigid, and he'd gotten the chance to get some floor time from Valdis, when not too many people would be around to watch her wipe the floor with him.

He smiles at her when she walks in. "You ready?"

G. [Deon] the Hotel | early May | closed to Vincent
There was one thing that Deon had to do to make sure he and Vincent were on the level: namely, return the laptop he had found. It was Vincent's laptop, after all. He knocks on the door, the laptop tucked under his arm. "Vincent?"

Brigid is not really sure what to do. But, right now, she needs to clear her mind and take on a new task: That of training someone in KRav Maga. It's been at least two years since she's done any herself and a bit longer than that since she worked with anyone.

Hopefully, it's like riding a bike.

She hasn't found a job yet, either, and that bothers her. She needs a job. Because translating Gaelic isn't going to get her very far here.

She smiles, walking into the room, and leaving the problems behind her. Her teachers always told her that whatever went on outside got left there.

"I should be asking you that. You realize you're going to be sore tomorrow?"

[jinzhong]

Jackie nods, grinning ruefully. "Yeah, probably. But I've dealt with worse, so I can handle it." So much worse, Brigid. Being sore after training isn't going to bother him any, short of some good-natured grousing.

"How 'bout it, ready to kick my ass?"

[bostonhowler]

Somehow, she does not doubt that he's willing to take her on. He certainly looks it.

"Why don't you come at me, and I'll attempt to avoid the attack?" She suggests. Then, she can teach him some of the simpler avoidance techniques.

[jinzhong]

Well, couldn't hurt, right? (Except that it could.)

"Yeah, okay," he says, and charges at her. He's all brawn (in a manner of speaking), no finesse, so avoiding the attack should be easy enough.

[bostonhowler]

Except instead of letting him just run past her - it would have been easy to do that - she shifts her stance and brings her arm up, blocks the hit, and tries to flip him over her hip.

She's got muscle memory from working in Krav Maga for so many years. It'll just take time to get it up and going again.

[jinzhong]

Aaannnddd she flips him on his ass.

He lands, the wind knocked out of him, and stares up at the ceiling, blinking, before he starts to laugh as much as he can.

"Told you you'd kick my ass," he wheezes.

[bostonhowler]

she smiles, holding her hand out for him. "Well, if you get up, I'll show you how to do that?" She suggests, softly.

Brigid isn't out to hurt anyone, really, but knowing how to handle herself has saved her from having to drag out the claws and fangs on more than one occasion.

[jinzhong]

"Yeah, okay," he says, and takes her hand, getting to his feet. It'd hurt his macho pride if this had been, say, two or three years ago, but he's been here long enough that none of that really matters anymore.

"Man, I must be really rusty. Last time I was in a fight, I got my ass handed to me," he says. "But...there were three of them. And they had weapons."

Which is why he wants to train.

[bostonhowler]

She smiles slightly. "Three against one, I can actually teach you to handle, since that's part of what Krav Maga is." She explains. "Now, come at me, slower. I'm going to show you the block and the throw in slow motion."

[jinzhong]

Jackie nods, and repeats the attack, more slowly this time. He is fully prepared to get thrown down again. The things you put up with for self-defense...

She nods. "Now, when the attacker steps up like this, wait until his weight is forward. Step up, into it, grab the arm as you twist and..." Brigid shrugs. "Then it's a matter of using his weight against him." She grins. "Wanna fall down again?"

[jinzhong]

He nods, attentively following along. When she asks, he grimaces. "Not really, but I guess I gotta," he says ruefully.

[bostonhowler]

She laughs, lightly. None of this is very different from what she went through. "Here, why don't you try to throw me? Just the way I showed you." And here, she'll attack. Slowly, but there's definite intent behind it.

[jinzhong]

"Okay." He tries to repeat what she showed him, but he doesn't have a lot of finesse, and he's worried about messing up, or hurting her by accident. All things which can be used to Brigid's advantage!

[bostonhowler]

She stops him because he might actually end up hurting himself, rather than her. "No, Jackie. Just like I showed you." She says. "don't worry about hurting me. You won't. I'm a big tough girl, I promise." Plus, werewolf, so even if she bruises it won't be too bad.

[jinzhong]

Jackie grimaces and lets her correct him. "Sorry. I was kinda raised not to hit a girl. Not unless one's coming at me with a knife."

[bostonhowler]

Brigid smiles. "And anywhere else I'd appreciate your chivalry." She would. She thinks there's a definite lack of decency in the world. "But here? I'm just another student, or teacher. I expect to get bruises." She waves her hands at him. "Now, again."

[jinzhong]

Okay, that makes a fair amount of sense. Jackie nods.

"Okay. Right. Yeah. Ready when you are."

[bostonhowler]

She smiles. "Don't take it easy on the girl, just because she's a girl. that makes us even deadlier." With that, she attacks.

[jinzhong]

Jackie does what Brigid showed him, exactly as she'd showed him, this time.

This time, Brigid goes over and slams into the mat. Not that she minds, but it still drives the air out of her lungs. Smiling, she pushes herself up. "Good. Now, again?"
