#1: early August

If you happened to visit Kylo Ren in the first days of August, you would find him packing up the few belongings he had gathered during his stay on Tu Vishan, or if you were very lucky, you might even witness the movers he had hired to have him disappear from Sky Sector with as little fuss as possible.

With Phasma gone, the house in the Sky Sector had become a location far too well-known for his comfort, and if a change of scenery would conceal Phasma's disappearance for a while, all the better. Inhabitants of the Fire Sector would run into him an awful lot there all of a sudden, and indeed he had gotten an apartment near the industrial sector.


#2: August

Too bad his new solitude didn't work out too well. Or rather, didn't last too long. All of a sudden Kylo Ren could be seen in the company of several Kin'nal, and looking none too happy about his new friends. So much for him and Hux talking of the need for humanitarian aid, such things always come back to haunt you... sometimes quite literally, by moving in with you.

for Fletch, healer's guild

When Adrian Fletcher had spoken of working on Kylo's non-existant bedside manner, it had been easy enough to squash down his low-level horror and agree. It wasn't like he actually expected it to happen.

And now here he was after his morning lesson with Raine, seeking out the nurse for a training session which was sure to be one of the most grueling ones in his life. Snoke's teaching methods were far crueler than anyone at the Healer's Guild could ever fathom, but Snoke had never put him through the special hell that was patient experience.

Well. Alright, he had. But until now, 'good bedside manner' had been leaving them alive.

As he approached Fletch, he decided he wouldn't be let off this easily today. "I'm all yours now," he said, barely managing to hide a pained grimace. "I hope you realize I wasn't joking when I said I have no experience with patient contact in a medical context."

Fletch was in the foyer, making himself available to people who show up, reading through some notes. He does look up when Kylo approaches... It's hard not to notice the tall, dark and brooding gentleman with his own thundercloud.

Still, he beams happily. "Ah, yes. Mr. Ren." See this, Kylo? This is an arm going around your shoulders. "And, trust me, I've had bank nurses who are probably ten times worse."

And now you're being guided, Kylo.

"Don't worry, I won't throw you in at the deep end. We'll start with the basics. A little acronym called SAMPLE, yeah? Remember that. It's important. It stands for Signs or Symptoms, Allergies, Medication, Past Medical History, Last Oral Intake and Events leading to the issue. Simple, yeah?"

They're heading towards the admissions area to deal with the few new arrivals who've shown up.

"Now, how far are you with your training with Professor Sage?"

"I've only just begun a couple of weeks ago," he says dismissively, "I don't think I'm equipped to be administering any healing by artes yet." He certainly doesn't feel equipped to be doing any such thing in front of an audience. Or, well, to be a healer at all. It is still hard to accept that in order to master the healing arts he will actually have to use them, and that means offering aid to those in need.

But he does permit Fletch to lead him, and doesn't even snap at him for doing so by steering him physically. Rather proud of that much self-control, really.

"I know about regular first aid, though," he offered, just so Fletch wouldn't go and tell Raine he'd been useless. "And I'm not squeamish around body fluids or gruesome wounds."

"Perfect. That's 25% of the job." Fletch remarks, stopping and removing his arm when they're in the admission reception.

"Now, as well as that SAMPLE acronym, the key thing is to listen and watch. If something about their story doesn't match up, question them on it. It's vitally important we catch everything, got it?"

He stopped in mid-step, gives Fletch a long, hard look before he catches himself and pretends nothing out of the ordinary has happened. "I'm good with questioning," he says, unable to keep some wryness out of his voice. Has Sheena told Raine that he's an interrogator? Has Raine passed it on? Is this a test to see if he will admit to it?

Kylo just scowls at a random clipboard as if it had personally offended him. "I can question the new arrivals, I'm good at getting people to talk, and detecting lies."

Fletch has no idea about your prowess of interrogation, Kylo, but he does look behind him as he notices you've stopped...

...And, yeah, he's noticed the thundercloud hovering over your expression, Mr. Ren.

"Well, sometimes it ain't so much as getting them to talk. You've gotta pay attention to non-verbal cues, too, and persuade them to talk to you. Some of these folks'll be in some vulunerable or embarrassing situations, so we've gotta have at least a tiny bit of tact."

Says the winner of the World Tact Tournament 2015. Still, even Fletch knew what to ask and when.

Oh no. He tries very hard to stifle a groan, and this much he heroically manages, but preventing it from showing on his face is just too much to ask for.

"I'm terrible with tact," he admits, and gives a little snort. "I have experience with questioning people, but they are in no position to complain about my lack of tact." Interrogation is rarely that tactful anyway with the First Order. "I suggest I'll be detecting their lies, while you ask the tactful questions."

And then he hesitates, fighting a little with himself before daring to ask, "what embarrassing things are you speaking of? Because I have experience with learning things I never wanted to know, and I'd rather not deal with that here." People's heads can be scary places, Fletch.

Yeah, he knows. His own head is pretty scary at times. He's frowning at your expression, Kylo. Don't think he hasn't noticed.

As for the question; "Well, there could be a condition that affects someone's... private areas that we need to diagnose and treat or heal. It could be something embarrassing, too. I couldn't tell ya how many patients I've come across who haven't told me something serious because of their pride."

"Oh, I know about embarrassing secrets," he said, grimacing again, and sounding like someone who had seen many horrors, "trust me, I know." He eyes the man from the corner of his eyes. Would it really do harm to share this with him? "Finding out people's secrets is my job, and while I'm looking for military secrets, I learn far too many which I would be happier not knowing."

Really, he doesn't need to know your sexual history in order to find out if you've been hiding Resistance fighters.

"I think I can handle whatever they throw at me, though I'd rather not. This part shouldn't be a problem. Providing comfort and such... That will be a problem."

"Oh, yeah?" Ya don't say? Fletch could have told you that much. "If that's a big problem, I might suggest another career path, mate. Nursing and medicine... That's the whole point. Caring, comforting, healing... They're all under the same umbrella."

And he's folding his arms.

"If you can't manage basic human sympathy and empathy, you're definitely in the wrong place."

"But I'm not here to become a healer!" he blurted out indignantly. Which was followed by a deeply offended look, as if Fletch had just suggested he was training to become a Hutt Lord's dancing girl.

He thought for a moment how to word what it was, but as much truth as possible would work best in this case. "This is part of rounding out my education. I'm a Force user... magic, of a sort. My healing powers are very limited, to the point of being useless. Artes are one way of working around that. The rest..." He sighed. "That happened."

He still didn't know how he had gotten sucked into daily life at the healer's guild. Well, okay, he did.

"Master Raine expects more of me than theoretical knowledge of her magic."

Fletch doesn't seem bothered by the outburst, but he does fold his keep his arms folded and his expression stern.

"Professor Sage is right. You need to know the ins and outs of healing and medicine before you'll be any good at it. It's great to say you can fix anything you like with a snap of the fingers, but that's not the point."

He shrugs.

"But, if you're so opposed to learning how to care for people, I can point you in the direction of the door..."

Nobody had ever...

People did not...

Anger burned hot through Kylo Ren, his hand already moving up to Force choke the man, or just plain grab him for some satisfying physical violence. How easy it would be to throw him, the satisfying smash when he hit the wall...

...and he would be fired.

"Don't threaten me," he snarled, stepping very close, so they were straight chest to chest, his shoulders shaking with the sheer effort it took to keep from lashing out, "you have no idea what I do to people who threaten me." Only Hux got away with it, because his Master would punish him if he attacked Hux. But he had to now, or Raine wouldn't punish, she would send him away, every chance to learn gone... "Don't."

Fletch bristles. He's known to have a temper and an attitude problem himself, but that doesn't stop him from doing his job.

"This isn't a threat, Mr. Ren." Fletch states, calmly, but his voice is laced with a warning tone. "But I won't have people who throw tantrums when they don't get their way around my patients."

Because no matter how you look at it, this is what this is, Kylo. And it has Fletch squaring up to you.

"We're done here. I suggest you go and think about if a career in medicine is for you."

The cheek! Defying him, even now, it just wouldn't do. People should not be allowed to face him like this, they had to learn.

"Gladly," he growled, abruptly turning away from Fletch, but not without trying to shove the man.

He deserved so much worse anyway. So much worse. If this were the Finalizer, or if he had an alternative to studying with Raine...

"I would rather be anywhere but here, with you!"

To his credit, Kylo does manage to make Fletch take a step back. And to Fletch's credit, he doesn't react. He could have grabbed for Kylo and made an issue of it, but...

...No, this isn't the time for bravado. He lets Kylo storm off, keeping his expression neutral.
