Characters: Daenerys Targaryen & Raine Sage
Date: August 17th
Location: Water Sector, Healing Guild.
Situation: A Queen wants to add to her skills.
Warnings/Rating: None?

She had found her way through the desert and to the shores of the East; she had conquered the kingdoms of Slaver's Bay. Surely, finding the Healing Guild would be no trouble. Even so, Daenerys began the trek not long after she spoke to Professor Raine Sage. It was afternoon by the time she, at last, walked up the steps to the Guild and let herself inside.

There was a hint of magic in the air - but not of the sort that set her on edge. It seemed the Professor hadn't lied.

"Excuse me." she caught the attention of an attendant - or nurse? - and phrased her question concisely, "Where might I find Professor Sage?"

A few moments later, she was being guided, the attendant walking at a swift pace. Daenerys gave her thanks and approached the Professor in question, hands clasped before her.

"We spoke earlier. I am Daenerys Targaryen; a new arrival." and now eager student. Everyone must be a novice in a craft before they could progress. She would not waste her time or the Professor's. While time was paused in her world, she would learn useful skills; skills that might well save a certain knight's life.

It was usual enough for Foreigners to be looking for Raine; the words were barely out of Daenerys' mouth before the kedan woman was nodding, showing her the way back to the office Raine used.

She wasn't in the middle of any healing, only making notes on a weathered book in carefully curled handwriting. At Daenerys' approach Raine looked up, expression clouded briefly before clarity dawned. "Yes, I've been expecting you. Raine Sage, which it seems you already knew. Did you have any difficulty finding the Guild?"

Raine didn't get up, to greet her guest, but she did incline her head in polite greeting, the shallower seated cousin of a bow.

The office wasn't particularly busy; it had been something else before it was converted, and the desk and one bookshelf was all the furniture there was, besides the chairs. Books overflowed the shelf to a neat stack beside it, and a staff leaned in the corner by the door, an elegant mahogany thing capped with concentric brass circles.

Raine's desk, though, was cluttered, reflecting something of the stress she'd been under personally lately.

She watched Daenerys' expression change, and in return something of approval showed on Raine's face. There was a determination there she could respect, even if it was only a few moments since they'd met. "We'll teach you whatever you can learn," she said, frankly. "Mundane healing, naturally; what to do with both critical and long-term care. If it turns out that some other type of magic does work for you, then that, as well. May I ask-- 'Westeros' doesn't sound familiar. Your world isn't called 'Earth', correct?"

"Hm," Raine said, thoughtfully. None of the names were familiar to her, but that was no guarantee that Daenerys was completely alone here. She made a mental note of the names, and moved on.

"I'm happy to demonstrate, yes. I'm not in the habit of creating injuries just to mend them, but I can show you one of my defensive artes, if you like. They're designed to temporarily increase a person's resilience; they've saved lives, on occasion." She understood the woman's hesitance, at the very least. "Out of curiosity-- are there only humans, in your world?"

Raine tilted her head slightly in curiosity. "Are either sapient? I mean specifically beings with a... a human level of awareness and intelligence." It wasn't an idle query; but Raine wasn't explaining her reasons yet, either, and she moved on to casting.

She pushed back from the desk and stood, collecting her staff from the corner. "This is a focus," she explained, lifting it in one hand. "It's especially conductive to mana, and it makes casting both easier and more effective. One moment."

Letting her eyes drift half-closed, Raine concentrated briefly. White light appeared beneath her, angular shapes like runes patterned into a circle which spun slowly. It took only a few seconds, uninterrupted, for her to complete the arrangement she needed to, and before long the circle had vanished. "Permaguard," Raine murmured, and a wave of light crossed her skin, leaving a trail like blue hexagons in its wake. That vanished, too, but when Raine set her staff down and flicked a finger against the opposite palm, the barrier was clearly if briefly evident. "It diffuses momentum and increases my own physical resistances," she explained, holding a hand out to Daenerys. "With your permission, I'll cast the same on you, so that you can feel it for yourself."
