[OPEN] August Catchall
Characters: River Tam OR Bakura, OPEN
Date: August
Location: Keeliai
Situation: Extremely late catch all.
Warnings/Rating: n/a
1. RIVER - Midnight Hotel, early August - closed to Klaus;
River had seen the Midnight Hotel go from Anton's version to a ghostly shell of its former self, only to blossom once more under Klaus' care and dedication. And when a list of job postings went up, advertising the need for services that had either been previously taken or magically upkept, the slight young woman was there when Klaus has a free moment.
"Knock knock, it's not the wolf at the door."
2. RIVER - Midnight Hotel or Any Sector, rest of August - open;
After being hired, River was almost always seen on the move. The changeover posed more of a challenge than simply a shift of proprietorship, especially in filling in all the necessities that had disappeared with the transdimensional Hotel's former innkeeper. Everything from daily necessities to construction materials needed to be procured, and River carried these requests to artisans and shopkeepers all throughout the city, a new messenger bag slung crosswise over her sweater.
3. RIVER - Tam House, Sky Sector - open;
With the house that she and Simon had moved into, River was actually settling into relatively domestic life not too badly. The isolation of only the two of them being there helped balance the raised agitation that sometimes came with her new delivery job.
During the day, she could be found outside, carefully watering the plants -- and sometimes talking to them in complicated mathematical theorems -- or occasionally singing in her world's Chinese dialect.
This wasn't to say that everything was perfect, however, and nightmares still plagued her when she slept. Sometimes with her screams ringing out through the otherwise quiet neighbourhood in the middle of the night, or finding her huddled on the doorstep of her house at dawn, shivering in the morning chill.
4. BAKURA - Jade Dojo, anytime in August - open;
The Dojo remained the most reliable place to locate the thief if one wanted his attentions. The unrest in the city means that the establishment is full again, particularly with people wanting to either learn or refresh themselves with weapon skills in light of the Snakes' slack in barring them.
It also means that tempers between various kedanese factions are on the rise, and when it bubbles over into distinctly non-practice brawling, Bakura is quick to show the offenders the door. It's not that he particularly cares which side is right -- even with Pepper and Valdis heading things up, he's not the loudest proponent of organized government -- but he doesn't feel like cleaning up others' messes.
5. BAKURA - outside the city - open;
But occasionally someone (whether kedan or Foreigner) wants to practice skills that simply aren't good to be done indoors. With Valdis on the Police Force, Bakura provides more summoned creatures for people to face off against, and it's almost a daily sight that strange beasts and creatures are available to sate those destructive urges, provided you can deal with their master's sharp sense of humour.

3.
Unfortunately, she was still plagued by memories and nightmares... and he knew that there wasn't much he could do to make them go away.
So after one such bad night, Simon sought River out and found her on the front stoop, seating himself next to her and putting his arms around her, holding her close for warmth and comfort.

"... Me, too," he finally admitted. "I thought by now I'd be able to... to have done more."

"Wǒ hěn bàoqiàn," she says, tugging her hair strands, and tensing as though she plans to pull away, which makes her next statement all the more strange for its flippancy.
"It's not you. It's me. Really."

"It's not your fault," he whispered. "None of this is."

After a moment, she flashed him a watery smile. "Are you happy to see stars from planetside again?"
no subject
"I do, but sometimes I wish we could still drift," he told her. "It's nice here, but it's still strange to never leave the atmosphere."

"Do you think others might come here one day, like Inara did?" she asked, meaning the other members of the crew.
