i can feel the draw
Characters: Kratos Aurion, Pepper Potts, Sherlock Holmes, OPEN
Date: February, mostly
Location: a few places, specified
Situation: some buttery, some memory shenanigans
Warnings/Rating: Discussion of suicidal tendencies in the thread with Pepper.
a; SHERLOCK; early Feb; he's never had a detective sent after him before. assassins, yes; detectives, no.
Kratos saw Raine's broadcast. He even saw through its pointedness. 'Point of origin' -- that had to be deliberate. But publicly called out, even in a tangential sort of way, doesn't mean Kratos feels ready to actually go and seek Raine out.
Which means that a few days have passed and he still hasn't. Instead he's sitting in a Water-Sector cafe with a steaming mug of untouched tea on the table in front of him, watching some children play in the snow across the street. One of the canals has frozen over just enough to let them have a tiny skating rink, and some space to build snowpeople.
He cuts a fairly distinct figure. He's wearing loose and simple clothes like the Woodsmen do, with boots to match, muddied and splattered. There's a cloak across his shoulders, but it's open, and he seems undeterred by the cold despite the fact his table is outside. (In fact, he doesn't seem to be showing any physiological signs common with being cold.)
There's a sheathed sword on his hip; even sheathed, it doesn't look like a usual sword. The width of the sheath suggests broadsword; the length of blade and hilt suggests long; the curved hand-guard is something more likely to be seen on a rapier, inlaid in gold and something red-toned which could be either metal or glass. He's got a ring on his index finger, and a chain around his neck tucked into the tunic; and on his left-hand glove (it's fingerless, despite the weather) there's a crystal set in an engraved plate. It looks like an affectation attached to the glove, except that there's no matching gem on his right hand; and the rest of his clothes, and the calluses on his fingers, speak of pragmatism.
He's sitting facing the street, his arms crossed, but he sits very still and upright, with an impassive expression to end all impassive expressions; if it weren't for the fact he was breathing, he might have been a statue. Even when a rickshaw clatters loudly by, he doesn't turn or flinch.
b; PEPPER; mid-Feb; at least he's polite about dobbing people in for their lies.
One of the conversations Kratos had see on Raine's broadcast was between Pepper and Zelos. Whatever Zelos might think, Kratos bears no real ill-will toward him; but that was a fancy tale he was weaving. Kratos isn't sure the man knows how to be properly honest. He doesn't know Pepper very well, but he's already seen how persistent she can be.
And -- well, if she's been in a similar situation to Lloyd, then maybe she'll actually be able to help. At the very least, she deserves to know that Zelos was lying through his teeth.
Kratos finds her address from Raine, and waits patiently a ways down the street for her housemates to be gone before going to the door and knocking. Then he leans back against the wall to wait for an answer.
c; OPEN; memory event; it's possible the child thinks she's scamming him.
There's a few days in the middle of the month when Kratos can be found wandering around the city in various public areas -- places like the Healer's Guild, the hospital, the Midnight Hotel, the shelter, the Police Station. He is, without exception, carrying the same child in his arms, wrapped in his cloak. (He's either unable to find something warm for himself, or doesn't care about the cold. It's hard to tell, at a glance.)
Early on, his questions are straight-forward: "Have you seen a tall kedan with blue hair?"
Later, the questions are more involved: "Have you seen a tall kedan with blue hair, scales lining her face, a pair of twisted horns, six webbed fingers on each hand, and a tail?"
Occasionally, the child will pipe up to correct his description, usually to make it more convoluted. When she isn't eating something he's bought for her. Or sleeping against his shoulder. They don't seem to be having much luck finding this 'parent', funnily enough, but Kratos's patient equanimity doesn't change much from day-to-day despite the difficulty.
d; OPEN; any time; sleep? what's that?
Otherwise, Kratos can be found in various places in the city over the course of the month. A few days into the month, this is prominently the Healer's Guild, where he can be found attending to non-life-threatening injuries (anything from cuts, bruises, to broken bones). He's the tall redheaded one with the impassive expression and the gentle hands who casts First Aid a lot.
He's also frequently found in the streets, day or night, helping kedan clear snow from their shops or houses, or delivering vital necessities to those kedan who don't have all that much. Sometimes, he winds up carrying them back to the nearest public shelter, like the Guild or the hospital or the shelter.
He ... He doesn't seem to sleep. He can, however, frequently be found looking up at the stars.
[ooc: memory shenanigans for which we don't have a specific starter planner should go in either of the open scenarios. unless you have something specific, then lemme know and i'll make up a header.]

A.
He watches the people in the cafe with mild interest, making observations as his eyes scan over each table and person sitting down. There is one thing that stand out however, and that's the person sitting outside and not looking the least bit cold.
The lady behind the counter hands him the two coffee and he wishes her a distracted good day in imperfect Kedanese before allowing himself to move over towards the man not displaying any signs of being bothered by the weather-and then there's the cloak Pepper had mentioned. Well, then here goes nothing. he stops just at the door leading out and moves one cup of coffee to be held by his arm before fishing his communicator out and placing it between his cheek and shoulder like one might a phone. One cup of coffee in each hand again and he backs into the door to open it.
"No, I've got the coffees-I'm heading there-Damn it." He makes sure the device slips out and clatter to the ground just as he's crossing by the man in question.
"Would you mind if I set these down? Just for a moment?" He indicates to the coffee.
no subject
Likewise he starts to ignore the loud chatter of the man exiting the door, until the voice pings him as familiar. Hmh. Where had he heard that voice before ...? Kratos glances toward the man, expression impassive as he regards him. Not a familiar face, so someone he's overheard and not seen; but the tone doesn't sound right.
"There's plenty of space," he replies, with his gaze still on the man as he pushes the table toward the man with his foot. His tea barely ripples.
no subject
"Bit cold out, isn't it?"
no subject
Either the stranger is absurdly unobservant, and hasn't noticed Kratos is the only one outside and therefore enjoys or doesn't mind the weather; or he's intensely observant, and is after something in an extremely roundabout way. And Kratos has still heard him somewhere before; so, probably the latter.
"Is there something you're after?"
no subject
"Sherlock Holmes, I'm a detective. A friend of yours was looking for you so I volunteered." Or that was the surface reason, anyway. "Care to talk?"
no subject
"Not particularly," Kratos answers without a flicker in his expression or a shift to move, either to leave or attack. "Are you getting paid for giving me the message, or for ensuring I go to talk to her?"
That will tell him how hard Holmes intends to try.
