I, I can't keep these memories out of my mind, and some kind of madness has started to evolve...

Characters: Gene, Jackie, Peridot, Alex, and Miles...as well as whoever's unlucky enough to bump into 'em.
Date: February 8-12
Location: Throughout Keeliai
Situation: Memory share, event, which means...[shadow the hedgehog voice] DON'T TOUCH IT!
Warnings/Rating: Child abuse, gore, torture, mayhem, substance abuse, fringe science, brutal murder, and SPAAAAACE.

A. [Gene] | Jade Dojo | closed to Bakura
The dojo was still in disrepair after the hurricane, so Gene had gone out to his workplace (well, one of them) to help put things back together.

"Hey," he says as he walks up. He looks a little shaken.

B. [Gene] Sky Sector | closed to Raine
Gene likes Raine, and he hasn't seen her in a while, so when he sees her in the park, he actually grins and waves. Most un-Gene-like behavior, but he does consider her to be one of his closest friends. "Raine!" Because goddamn, but he needs a friend right now.

C. [Jackie] the Golden Koi | closed to Brigid
Brigid had been coming to see him when he closed up the bar sometimes, and so every night when he was wiping down the bar and cleaning glasses he kept an eye out for her. Sometimes her duties at the shelter kept her from coming, but sometimes they didn't.

D. [Jackie] Sky Sector | closed to Valdis
Sometimes all Jackie could do was laugh a little when he remembered that he was friends with a bunch of cops. He never would have thought it possible before. But at least when he sees Valdis, he's able to put the disturbing memory he relived the previous night - and all the baggage of the one he got in return - out of his mind.

E. [Jackie] Fire Sector | closed to Danny
Okay, Jackie's relived that twice. He would rather not do that again. Living through it once - and, well, not really living through it - was bad enough. So he's walking down the street with his hands jammed in his pockets, trying to give everyone a wide berth. Not touching people means that there's not going to be any accidental whatever-the-fuck, right?

F. [Jackie] Water Sector | closed to Raine
Over the course of about two days, Jackie is starting to look a little unhinged. Well, depressed/terrified/deeply traumatized, but wouldn't you be if you had to relive your own death over and over? That's why he's so glad to see Raine.

"Oh, man, Raine," he says. "Please tell me you know how to make this shit stop."

G. [Peridot] Substitute 221B | closed to Conan
Oof, sometimes Peridot regretted deciding to keep this house. She was beginning to think the house wasn't hers at all!

Mostly because of the Conan. What a pain! At least the Steven had been nice. The Conan was just...well, a brat! He's not very gneiss.

And speak of the...annoying human child...there he is now. "What do you want?"

H. [Peridot] Water Sector | closed to Elizabeth
Ugh. Stupid Conan.

Peridot's fuming, kicking small rocks as she walks down the street. She's also muttering to herself. The little angry slice of pie is in what is almost a cartoonishly bad temper.

I. [Alex] Earth Sector | closed to Conan
Alex had gone out to go speak to some kedan as a sort of goodwill jaunt post-hurricane (as well as trying to sneakily get information. Hey, spies gotta spy.) When he turns and sees Conan nearby, he's a little surprised. "Haven't I seen you around the station before?"

J. [Alex] Fire Sector | closed to Heather
It's nice to go talk to Heather sometimes; the two of them have a tendency to dance around each other, which is something he's missed since being here. Granted, he still keeps his secrets to himself, but that's okay. Even just a little sparring is good.

"Hello, Heather. How's it going today?"

K. [Alex] Wood Sector | closed to Bakura
Okay, well, this is getting weird. (Getting, he says, as if he's used to the bullshit all over Keeliai.) Actually, he is not on board with any of this, so he's keeping as wide a berth from other people as possible. He hangs onto his secrets tightly, and if they come spilling out of his head, he's going to be so mad.

L. [Miles] Wood Sector | closed to Yorda
Everything sucks. Everything really sucks. Everything has sucked, is sucking, and will continue to suck until further notice.

Miles is really not a fan of his memories being shown off like home movies. Especially since they all seem to be from that one fucking night. Like, why? Why?! Why couldn't they be nice memories of college? Or dating Beatriz? Or hell, he'd even take Afghanistan over this. At least he didn't lose any fucking limbs in Afghanistan!

But hey, there's someone familiar. "Yorda," he says. "You doing okay?"

M. [Miles] Earth Sector | closed to Costigan
Okay, Miles is 100,000% over this whole nonsense.

And yet, the Dreaming still isn't done with him. Why would it be? Why would anything since that one stupid night in Colorado ever be easy for him? God! He's so sick of this!

Anyway, here's Wonderwall Costigan.

N. [Alex] Earth Sector | closed to Costigan
Alex has decided to keep well and truly clear of everyone and everything until this whole nonsense is over. He'd stay inside, but being cooped up would drive him even crazier.

Conan smiles up at him, his expression bright and childish. He'd learned well that most people would never bother to look any further.

"You might have! I help out at the station a lot."

He's about to learn well that Alex isn't 'most people'.

"Oh yeah? What is it that you do at the station? Never really could figure out what a little kid's doing there."

"Helping. Back home I lived with a private detective, so I learned how to observe scenes. I used to help out the police like that. Now I mostly help out with the paperwork and in the forensics lab."

Though he was completely certain that the assignment was at least partially to keep him out of trouble.

"At..." He squints a little. "Your...age?" Look, kids all look the same between the ages of five and ten. "That's highly irregular."

"I'm seven. It's important to start on detective work young, you know."

"That young?" Alex laughs a little. "I didn't even know what I wanted to be when I was your age. I think maybe a cop."

"I've already decided on being a detective. Just like Sherlock Holmes! And Uncle, I guess."

He cringed a little at adding the last bit. But it was what would be expected of a kid.

"Huh. I sure hope my friends' kids don't want to take after their Uncle Alex," he muttered.

No, Jamie, you may not be a deniable CIA spy. Not allowed.

"Why? Are you a detective too?"

He was about to continue with this line of inquiry, but before he could there was the all too familiar feeling of a memory starting.

The scene, a hospital room. A young woman who obviously had been recently injured is lying on the bed, a breathing mask over her face. Beside her bed stand two people, a tall Japanese man wearing a ski hat and a very familiar small boy in glasses. The man speaks first.

“I wonder if you know about me?”

The woman glances over him as best as the mask allows. “Yes. You’re Akai Shuuichi. The FBI Agent the Organization fears the most.”

The man nods. “That will speed things along. We can get to the main point now.”

“But first, tell me one thing. How did you know I was with the CIA?”

Conan steps forward to answer this.

“First is the technique you used to tell whether I was lying when you interviewed Domon-san at the park. You were looking for irregularities in my pulse and breathing while watching the size of my pupils to determine if I was lying. That is a frequent tactic of the CIA. Afterwards you knew that I was lying about being there by chance, but you thanked me anyway. That’s because you were able to get through it without Domon-san dying. Furthermore, that phrase you used in front of Gin and the others. 'Our success won’t see the light of day, but our failures will become widely known.' That’s a standard phrase in the CIA, isn’t it?”

He smiles brightly, ignoring any question in her expression as to how a Japanese seven-year-old had happened to learn so much about an American agency.

“As for the rest,” he continues. “Well, it seems Vermouth became vaguely suspicious. She said, “Don’t tell me you’re like this” and knocked on her motorcycle. That knocking was a play on words for Non-Official Cover or NOC, wasn’t it? She was saying you were a double agent. Actually at that time there was a transmitter and listening device on your shoe.”

The woman stares at the small boy in some disbelief. “I see now. But how did you know about my father?

Akai interrupts to answer this question. “Looking into that wasn’t easy, only knowing his real name was Hondou. But this boy acquired information that led us to know he was in the “Company”.

She stares at the small boy again. “You really are amazing.”

Akai nods once, shortly. “Aah, to the point that we in the FBI are speechless.”

The woman returns her gaze to the ceiling. “But what will you do now? You must know the Organization will come after me.”

“As for that-” Both Akai and Conan smirk confidently.

“You can’t mean.. You want me to go back?”

“Of course,” Akai tells her. “There is a plan.”

Before Alex can even react to the Rather Interesting Thing That Just Happened, a memory of his own crashes over him like a wave.

It's 1962. Alex is young - 32 - and trekking through the wilds of Vietnam in the middle of the goddamned night. The jungle is hell, but to the right people, it's a friend. Alex is the right people.

The Saint, they call him, because he's bright and diplomatic, and he's sharp as hell, and he's a deadeye sniper. His plans are devious and foolproof, and he's one hell of a good spook, on the way to becoming a station chief.

He navigates with a compass and map, wades through rivers with his rifle above his head, tries not to splash through streams, and ducks VC traps, because he knows the signs. Alex is goddamned invincible. Saint Alex. Saint Alex of Langley.

After a hundred and forty miles of mosquito-infested jungle, full of traps and a thousand other ways he could have broken his neck, he finds Foxtrot base camp at dawn. And he swaggers in like the utter champion he is, looking down the barrels of the rifles pointed at him before the soldiers recognize who he is:

"Any of you fuckers got a bottle of bourbon?"

God. Fucking. Damn it.

And this kid just got really interesting.

"Well, you're not exactly normal, are you?" Alex asks mildly. His interest in Conan is now extremely piqued.

Conan had so many questions about the memory he had just seen, but he shoves them to the side in favor of avoiding certain questions.

"I told you I was a detective. Aside from that I'm just a kid."

Alex just kinda makes this face at him. "My prosthetic foot you are. People who are 'just kids' don't know that much. Not about NOCs."

"Mm-hmm." Alex looks like he trusts that as far as he could throw Conan.

Wait. Less far. Why would he even be throwing a kid anyway?

"Working with the FBI. Learn that from books, too?"

Conan grimaces. That was the one part of this that he didn't have a decent excuse for.

"That mostly happened by accident. I ran into them a few times by coincidence, and they happened to be in need of local assistance. At home I live with a famous detective and I help him sometimes on cases, so I was useful to them."
