[open] In comics, 35 is the new 55.
Characters: Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and YOU
Date: Today!
Location: Metal Sector
Situation: It's Bruce's birthday! And he'll celebrate it whether he wants to or not.
Warnings/Rating: C for cute
It was mid-afternoon by the time Dick managed to make a video post to the network.
"I doubt he told anyone, but today is Bruce's birthday. I say this calls for a party, don't you? So I'm throwing one in Metal sector this afternoon. Be there or be a quadrilateral with four right angles and sides of equal length."
He grins.
"And don't worry. I'll make sure the birthday boy shows up."
The feed ends. He won't reply to any of the responses, but he'll be clearly visible whenever your character decides to wander over to the party site.
It's nothing too stellar, compared to the birthday bashes back home. Then again, those parties never really suited Bruce. That plus the limited resources he had in Keeliai meant the party was pretty low-key.
The party itself takes place outside in a spacious area in Metal that nobody ever really used. A few tables are covered in snacks and drinks from all over. No booze, so it's BYOB. He's pretty sure he'd be grounded for life otherwise. The decorations leave a little to be desired. There's a banner with "Happy Birthday, Bruce" in English in what is clearly Dick's handwriting. That's more or less it.
But he did clear an area as an impromptu dance floor and managed to set up a soundsystem. It's playing the closest approximation of the music Bruce actually likes. Some of it sounds suspiciously like The Clash.
He did manage to acquire a cake and some candles, though. (Dick tried to make one. It wasn't pretty.)
All in all, he was satisfied. Now to find Bruce and make good on his promise.

Mr. Wayne.
[No curtsying, though. There were limits.]
Your family sure knows how to throw a party.
no subject
[And Bruce is all smiles in her presence, because Bat Reasons.]
As for the party, well. Personally, I've never been able to throw one to anyone's satisfaction without a great deal of professional assistance.
no subject
Okay, I guess.
Are there actually professional party planners in Keelai? [That...didn't seem like something the native would've thought of as a potential career choice.]
no subject
[He folds his arms, glances out over the crowd with a faintly approving look.]
It's one aspect of Gotham society I quite miss.
[LIES ALL LIES.]
no subject
[All truth on this end. He might've approved, and she agreed with his approval of this particular event...but the socialite night life of the upper class? No, thank you.]
They could be fun sometimes. But I definitely prefer parties like this way more. The kind where you're surrounded by friends, and not just people who want to impress you. Or, even worse, who you have to impress.
no subject
Point taken.
no subject
You must have a lot of friends on the turtle, Mr. Wayne. I haven't seen this many foreigners gathered together since...well, probably ever.
no subject
[Handily dodging that assertion, yep.]
And please, call me Bruce.
no subject
[The name didn't feel quite as weird as she expected it to. Somehow, his presence was just familiar enough to bypass the usual awkward of referring to an adult--and one of such high stature--by his first name.]
[Though something else he said gave her momentary pause. She would not have expected a man who openly advertised the desire for a date over the Network...a man of his reputation...to be so quick to dismiss his own popularity.]
You know, false modesty doesn't really suit you.
I mean, if there's one day out of the year where you should be able to get away with bragging, it should be on your birthday, right?
no subject
[Besides, he hates getting older. Each step takes him that much closer to being physically unable to do this job.
Not everyone can have Wildcat's luck, after all.]
no subject
[Plus, when you're 14, the thought of 'getting older' was still a positive thing.]
Besides...something tells me you couldn't stop Dick from celebrating if you tried. Might as well enjoy it.
no subject
[An idle glance at one of the tables...]
But I am going to find whoever sold alcohol to a minor and be very displeased in their general direction, when this is all said and done.
no subject
You don't know they sold it to him.
Maybe he asked one of the adults to help with that.
no subject
It's hardly worse than anything I did at his age.
[He was already training to be Batman, so... technically not incorrect.]
no subject
Are you sure you want to be telling me this?
[Not that she's discouraging it. In fact, please, continue.]
[...although, she is essentially required by law, as a...let's go with "friend"...to pass this information on to Dick at a later time, for him to use at his discretion.]
no subject
Probably not. I try to avoid corruption of the youth when and where I can.
[BRUCE WAYNE IS A LYING LIAR THAT LIES AND HE HAS A MEMORIAL CASE IN HIS BAT-BUNKER TO PROVE IIIIIIT]
no subject
[She doesn't even know, and she still somehow knows.]
no subject
Well, no one's perfect.
