Date: May 8th
Location: Metal Sector
Situation: Hitting the pavement.

“We’re not hiring.”
Korra slapped her face with her hand and let it slide down, giving a frustrated groan when it was over her mouth. Everyone seemed to be fully staffed in the business district of the Metal Sector because she had spent hours going store to store asking about employment. “Thanks anyway.” She was unable to keep the resentment from her voice from being turned away yet again and accidentally closed the door to the electronics boutique a little too firmly but didn't even bother apologizing. Crossing her arms she looked at the storefront, her lip curled in a sneer at the words written on the window in the door. Whatever language it was written in came across as pure gibberish to her, as did the little black sign with red lettering in the corner of it.
“I don’t like your stupid little glowing, music boxes anyway.” She lied. They were radios that could fit in the palm of her hand, which was incredible to her. Just about everything in this sector was. Except for the job market, that seemed to be pretty underwhelming. Clenching her fists she began to walk briskly towards the café she passed earlier. A drink and a bite to eat would really help air out the foul mood she was developing.

So today, he was using the extra juulan from his catch to eat out instead, sitting outside to enjoy the warm day. He watched the girl stomp up to the cafe, unable to help the small smile. She reminded him of Katniss when she was disgruntled.
"Bad day?"

“Bad first week is more like it.” She said dismally as she motioned her head toward an empty chair at his table, non-verbally asking for a seat. “And I don’t want to assume anything-“ which of course she does anyway “But you’re not from around here either, huh?”
no subject
He nodded when she motioned to the seat, giving her the permission to join him. "It gets easier over time, but maybe I've just had a better time of it." People liked him, after all. Even the kedan. Not that he hadn't had his own share of problems, but not as bad as others. "I'm a Foreigner like you, so assume away. I've just had the luck to have been here much longer. Is this your first week here?"
no subject
"Yeah, first week and I'm already really homesick. I just have to get used to bad luck then I guess." Leaning back in her chair, she stretched out her legs and wiggled her toes inside her shoes. A few of them actually popped and it felt so glorious in the moment.
"Finding a job with the kedan isn't exactly easy, and they don't find illiteracy to be that endearing either." Finding herself slouching and getting too relaxed, she straightened herself up and extended her hand over the table. "I'm Korra by the way."
no subject
He could understand that. Five months, and he was still desperately homesick. "Bad luck doesn't last forever. I'm sure you'll be fine soon enough."
Leaning forward, he took her hand firmly, shaking it. "I'm Finnick. A pleasure to meet you." A smirk played on his lips. "A week here, and you're searching for a job? That's some initiative. Have you tried helping out on the farms?"
no subject
“Real nice to meet you Finnick.” her voice is sincere; he was very pleasant to look at. There’s a brief moment before she clears her throat, breaking visual contact so that she doesn’t come across as leering at him. “I was hoping initiative would help me get some extra spending money, I’m kind of clinging onto the juulan I got when I first arrived.” One her eyebrows raised as she pursed her lips. “I didn’t know farms would be that close by.” Given what she’d seen of the Metal Sector, it never came across to her that farmland would be anywhere nearby. “That does make sense. Bet they need all the help they can get if everyone else is suffering from the rationing that’s going on.”
no subject
Another smirk tugs at his mouth. It wasn't like she would be the first to be caught staring at him. "Generally, I'd agree with you. But the rationing has put the kedan on edge for the time being." Finnick nodded in agreement, looking her over as he did so. She was muscular, meaning that she wasn't a stranger to hard labor. Farming could work out for her. "The entire turtle's suffering, with no real end in sight. You help out, everyone gets a little bit more food, you get paid."
no subject
"We violent ones have got a pretty keen eye Finnick." there was no way Korra could say that without a straight face. However, now she was curious who he did have in his own circle of friends, especially after considering his niceties.
"Never really saw myself as a farmer, but I suppose if it helps everyone. There wasn't a whole of farmland back home so I would have to learn as I go." as she thought about that, something crossed Korra's mind and she looked at Finnick with a curious look. "So what do you do for a living in Keeliai?" Picturing him working on the farms was difficult.
no subject
"There wasn't a lot of farmland where I grew up, either. But it seems simple enough." Beaches, the water. District 4 was the fishing district, and they left farming up to the districts that were drafted to provide agriculture to the Capitol. He smiled at her. "I own a fishing business. I sell my catch to the markets."
no subject
If Korra wasn't fully alert and at attention earlier, she was now. "At the south pole it was mostly fishing, because even when there was nothing to hunt there were always fish in the sea." Fishing business indeed. A coy, almost smug look comes across Korra's face and she folds her arms rather smugly. A chance to show off her bending abilities was a chance she couldn't turn down. "I'll bet you've never seen anyone fish like me."
Even though Korra knew other people had some pretty crazy powers on the turtle, and she hadn't even stopped to consider that Finnick may be one of them, she was quite proud of her waterbending abilities. Her own personal way to represent the Southern Water Tribe.

Of course, he was nothing but a mundane fisher himself, but if she had abilities like the other water types around here, it'd be nice to see.
Unless she was like Percy.

He also saw that she was pissed, which, to be fair, it seemed like a lot of people were, and for decent-enough reason. Too bad they didn't have standard-issue grocery stores around here or she could be a sullen bagger.
Shrugging, he went with his instinct, which was to call out to her.
"Hey! Kid."
no subject
"Oh, hi. Sorry, I just thought you were someone who wanted me tossed off the side of Tu Vishan." She rubbed her arm giving a nervous smile. "You don't, do you?" Because if he was, she'd probably snap the last straw on her back and possibly do something that would get her arrested.

It was more or less a joke. Not an awesome one, but hey, he wasn't that kind of asshole, don't mistake him for one.

“So are they always this nice, or is it just me?” Asked Korra taking a very brief moment to smell her armpit just in case.
