[It was almost surreal, how frivilous and lavish everything suddenly was. Fine wine. Candies. Jewelry. Decorations. Midii had only ever seen these kinds of things on television sets in her home town. Heard about the lives that the wealthy led while she and her kind were forced to scrounge for what passed for a decent meal.]

[She almost got angry. Then she started wondering how much of it she could bring back with her, to Papa and the boys. Of course, that was assuming she could go home.]

[For a time, the eleven-year-old will be found hanging back. Watching. Taking note of the roasting tribbles over the open flames. Of the people passing. Everything.]
