[Five days. Lin has never been the panicking sort, but if that doesn't sound ominous, she doesn't know what does.
The first day, she drifts through the city in vain, trying and failing to get the attention of everyone she knows. The morning of the second day, however, finds her parked in front of a motorcycle dealership at the edge of Metal Sector, expression grimly determined.
At first, the casual observer will see and hear absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. But every now and then, one of the motorcycles roars to life, to the utter bafflement of the saleskedan, and then quickly dies out. It doesn't happen all the time. It doesn't even happen most of the time. She's not even sure if her sharp, forceful arm movements are what's causing it. But she doesn't shift out of horse stance, and she doesn't budge an inch.
The kedan is getting more and more distressed by the hour, shouting about how impossible it all is, how none of the motorcycles even have gas in them. At some point, a foreigner is bound to notice.]
