She may as well be referring to wild animals, but it's to distance herself as well. Monet can't have anyone thinking she actually gives a damn about anything but shoes, it'd ruin her carefully cultivated outer image of a selfish, spoiled brat. It's her armour, more so than makeup (which she doesn't wear much of, in Keeliai, due to lack of availability), and she polishes it regularly.
