[ hearing a (what he assumes initially) disembodied voice coming the moment he steps out of the shadows is certainly unusual. nico's normally one to take some kind of care when he shadow travels, enough to at least make sure that he wouldn't be scaring any of the general population when he steps out of nowhere. it must be the strangeness of this new city messing with him because he hasn't been so careless since the early days. either that, or he should immediately be on guard—
