A. WELCOME CENTER
It felt strange to go back to working regularly after everything that had happened inside the Kithika bottle. But the fish shop still needed to run, having many kedan customers in addition to Foreigners who patronized it, and Jack wanted to make sure that new arrivals (if there were any) weren't denied the assistance they might need just because his world was still reeling.

But it was fairly obvious that he was not his usual bright self, quietly withdrawn with empty forced smiles when they were appropriate, one of which he summoned when the door opened, the bell above it chiming cheerfully.

B. SPRINGTIME (CITY OR SHELL'S EDGE)
Ironically after the heat of Kithika, the warmer weather in Keeliai didn't seem nearly as bad but the temperature was on a definite upward spring. Jack still painted frost on windows on cool nights, especially on the large front window of the welcome center to sparkle in the morning when the sun hit it, before the glass warmed and melted it all off.

At home by now he would have paid a respectful visit to Baba Marta, the Spirit of Spring and started checking for signs that Bunnymund was preparing his usual egg trails. Easter was late this year, his preternatural senses told him, still over a month away and 20 days later than it had been last year. Selfishly he wished that the pooka would arrive for this Easter like he had last year, but he knew that he would be far more devastated if Bunny arrived only to leave again. So he made no mention of the Herald of Spring, not even to Baby Tooth.

It didn't keep him from feeling the same as he had last year: flighty, anxious, often taking off for hours to fly around the inside of the barrier out by the shell's edge. Desperate to shake the sense that part of him was slipping away uncontrolled with the days.
