When not working at the hospital, much of Septimus's time is spent in private. As much as he's naturally extraordinarily gifted at combat, he's still avoided most situations involving it for the last year and a half. Not only that, but he isn't wholly certain just how far his limits stretch here--he doesn't feel furies, though his crafting seems to work as well as ever. He's also worried about harming the turtle; usually battlecrafting would involve earth as well as fire, but he's had to cut back on it.

As a result, he's often to be found around various locations, practicing. 'Various locations' include the roof of his building, the sky, and honestly just about every sector as he gets used to the feel around him.

Septimus hasn't been this open about the wide extent of his abilities before; he's also not advertising it and practicing alone. On the other hand, it's much easier to run across him by accident now.
