[OPEN] Catch his last thoughts...

Characters: Bakura & open~
Date: April catch-all log
Location: Various around Keeliai.
Situation: Mostly fallout from Bianca revealing his identity and dealing with that.

A. KEELIAI - DAYTIME;
After weighing the options in light of Bianca's announcement, Bakura had decided that for the time being, the best and most pragmatic route for him to take was to maintain Ryou's persona as long as there were people who seemed inclined to believe his facade. So he purposely didn't delineate from his routine, leaving his suite at the same time as he normally did, visiting the same shops during his errands. There were only two differences, neither of them immediately visible: first, concealed in his belt was a switchblade and second, he'd purposely left his deck in its case hidden in his suite. On the not-unlikely chance that someone might come after him out in the open, he would not risk the fragile cards being stolen or damaged in a place where replacing them seemed impossible. The Ring was tucked against skin beneath his shirt, the Bakura also stuck to high-traffic areas in which to make his daily routines, though frankly he was doubtful that would have as much impact around here as it might in a regular setting.

B. FIRE SECTOR - LATER IN THE WEEK;
Eventually however, the persona of his host simply becomes impractical to maintain because it isn't believed and so the thief, pragmatic as always, sheds it as a snake frees itself from old skin. So for those who might be used to seeing "Ryou" around the city, he appears as a far cry from the soft-eyed teen who speaks over the network. It's an entire shift of posture, now confident and even aggressive, the very way he carries himself while strolling around the Fire Sector. When he speaks, it's almost as though it's a different voice entirely; the vocal cords are the same but the accent, the phrasing, the inflection... all changed.

C. KEELIAI - FISH MARKET, WATER SECTOR;
As sea life provided the main source of food for the citizens of Tu Vishan, there was a never ending stream of kirin-drawn carts that trekked out to the shell's edge and back again, carrying barrels of fish and other marine creatures to be processed and sold across the city. This had led to a fairly sizable outdoor fish market in the southern part of the Water Sector, under tents and awnings for shade with many merchants and workers bustling about. The air was filled with rapid-fire numbers called as buyers bargained and haggled for what they wanted and the scent of salt and smoke where the meat was cured. It's a tight packed bustle that's ideal for going unnoticed and that in part was what drew Bakura there, in addition to not being so different from markets he remembered.

What he hadn't expected was to have gotten a job while he was there. It had been an offhand but dryly scathing comment as he'd passed by a stall owner trying to mend a net and doing it all wrong-- which Bakura hadn't hesitated to tell him. The result was an indignant well, you do it then if you're so clever followed by a begrudging concession when the offending hole was fixed in under a minute. The thief had done it more because he liked showing people up but the kedan had then followed it with an offer: he had crates and crates of stored nets, mostly in disrepair and if Bakura would work on them, he'd be paid per net. Given that he was most assuredly unemployed from Korra's dojo, it had been worth consideration. The offered wage quoted was quite low: only one juulan for every three nets, especially in comparison to the lavish wage of five juulan an hour that Korra had bestowed him for cleaning the dojo. But the pace was one he could set for himself and the kedan didn't seem to care that he was currently something of a pariah among the Foreigners, so he accepted.

So a few afternoons a week he finds himself sitting atop the dozens of crates stacked beside the main stall, tying and knotting fresh cord through the holes in the nets, seemingly content to be left alone by the shopkeeper and watch the busy crowds streaming back and forth through the tightly packed market.

Arriving at the dojo, Korra stood outside the gate and tried to place everything Bianca had said on the network the previous day. Summoning some kind of horror monster, making death threats,

…making people forget things.

None of it fit Ryou at all, and yet Bianca had always been level headed; keeping the clinic and hospital running. A strength and warming quality that Korra only ever really got from her own mother.

The power ring in her pocket glinted green as she idly rolled it between her thumb and index finger. Korra wanted to believe Ryou, she’s been making sure he got paid well enough to take care of himself. Something she felt the need to when she saw his first post on the network. She sighed and opened the gate, looking inside the dojo when she got inside. Clean as it was every day. He wasn’t ducking out or hiding.

When she got to the office and set her bag with her workout clothes down, Korra went to lean on the door frame.

"You got a minute?" She called out to the empty dojo. They had time before they were open to everyone, and she wanted to talk to him before the usual students and teachers came in. Before anyone had the chance to try to do anything against Ryou. It was her dojo and she wouldn't let anyone get into a real fight if she could help it. Not unless she condoned it, or was a part of it.

B - this can only end horribly

Hawkel always claims that he's about as subtle as a charging bull. When he makes an entrance everyone in the room knows that. The claim is only partly true though. When he chooses to be Hawke becomes a shadow on the wall. He blends into the darkness around him and all but vanishes. This is one of those times.

Tonight Hawke is on his own. Notch remains at home much to the hound's chagrin. Hiding himself is much easier than hiding a two-hundred pound dog. He lies in wait within a dark alley in the Fire Sector, the last place he saw his villain in the making. Hawke already knows that Bakura has tried to hurt other Foreigners and used one of his pets for wanton destruction. If he's behind the appearance of that monstrous wolf as well, then Bakura is also responsible for the deaths of several kedan as well. There's a good chance that only more deaths will happen if no action is taken. Hawke won't let that happen.

Monet finds him when he's making a quick stop at a cafe. She slides into the seat opposite, confidently and easily, setting out a chessboard, white for him, black for her. The fleur-de-lis necklace glints in the sunlight. It was a simple matter to glance at the network and identify the speech pattern. It's hilarious, on some level, that he felt he needed to do that, but the secret's out.

She's not about to let go of a good chess partner, however. Not until she knows more.

'White moves first, chéri,' she says, pleasantly, voice laden with honey.

Never knowing Ryou, all Hawke sees is same person from the night he killed that spellcasting creature. The only difference is that now Hawke can clearly the see his face. As Bakura moves by the alley Hawke darts towards him. There's no witty remark, or a battle cry of any kind. He just jabs a fist at Bakura's chin to throw him off balance so he can hopefully haul him into the alley by his long silver locks.

Hawke rolls with the blow to lessen its impact. Wearing his armor helps lessen it even more. During the six years he's lived in Kirkwall he's learned to take no chances. There's no such thing as overkill in his book.

With his grip on Bakura's hair still tight, Hawke swings him around to smash his face against the wall.

"I think we should talk," Hawke says rather cheerfully before driving a fist into Bakura's side.

"Actually, I'll talk while you just kind of roll around in pain."

'Indulge me,' she says, looking him over. There's no overt approval yet, she has to get to know him all over again, even if she has a head start. Gesturing to the waiter, she orders a cold drink; a simple fruit punch.

'Why the charade?' she asks, as he makes his first move.

So Bakura does know how to fight after all. Just another reason that Hawke should take no chances despite how nonthreatening he may actually look. Fortunately, while Hawke may be seen as a hero, he's not above fighting dirty when it calls for it. This is no duel after all. This is simply taking out the trash.

"If you insist," he responds casually. His hand grips Bakura's shoulder to yank him away from the wall. In a single fluid motion, Hawke spins and drives his foot towards Bakura's groin.

So much for the quick finish that he was hoping for. It seems that Bakura's determined to draw this one out. Hawke knows he could finish this quickly if he used his axes. Unarmed combat isn't exactly what he's best at. Crazy madman Bakura might be though, he's still a teenager and Hawke can't bring himself to kill a kid. It's a line he doesn't want to cross. Kicking them in the groin is fine though.

The kick connects and Hawke's leg goes out. Quickly he drops to a knee and rolls away. He rises to his feet swiftly, ignoring the pain, and moves in a flurry of motion. Hawke darts right then left before feinting with another jab, following it with a solid blow towards Bakura's stomach.

Seeing him made Bianca’s accusation seem ridiculous, but she had seen her uncle’s betrayal; his lie of believing in her. When she was sure no one else actually placed their trust in her.

"Bianca’s pretty sure that she encountered you in an alleyway with some kind of monster. Is any of it true?" Korra’s normal form of interrogation’s a lot more physical, but she doesn’t know exactly where she stood and whose story made more sense.

Yet.

"He's not nearly as nice as me," Hawke answers with a certain calm about him. He's good at getting a rise out of people so he knows when someone is trying to do the same to him. "If he were here we wouldn't have a chance to chat."

Hawke's foot snaps out like a striking snake towards Bakura's chest to hopefully stun him and knock him onto his back. There are questions he wants answered.

"Has anyone told you that you're about as threatening an incontinent cat and just as annoying?" Hawke sounds utterly unimpressed right now. Bakura's move throws him off balance to be sure but he recovers quickly. Must the looney ones be so annoying?

The threat of mind control spurs him to take things more seriously than he does now. Hawke doesn't offer threats, just violence. He whirls around as Bakura lunges past him, drawing his throwing knife and launching it at his opponent's shoulder with a quick flick of his wrist. An instant later he takes a quick step forward, taking an axe in hand as he does so and swings the blunt end at Bakura's head like a club.

"Quit making up words or I'm giving you a concussion," Hawke spits as he seizes Bakura's uninjured shoulder and spins him around. Immediately afterwards Hawke wrenches his arm behind him, shoving him against the wall while pressing the base of his axe against Bakura's spine.

"Now, we're finally going to have that conversation and if you keep putting up a fuss I'm going to start using the pointy end of my axe."
