Leaning forward to look Ellie right in the eye, an expression of blank confusion crosses his face as she demands to know where he's been. The hell is she talking about, him showing up and then leaving again? His hand grips her shoulder tight, squeezes it, and as she goes on to say she's alright, that she's fine, he studies her closely. Worriedly.
He swallows thickly. God, he doesn't know how he's wound up in this place, but fuck, he'd come so close to losing her that up until a minute or so ago, he'd been convinced that he'd lost her for good.
"Look, I don't know what you're talkin' about," he says, "'bout me showin' up and leavin', but… I never left you. I've been with you the whole damn time. Some asshole knocked me unconscious and then I woke up here, wherever the hell here is s'posed to be, but--"
He pulls her further into the alley, wanting to get away from the god damned noise. "You sure you're alright, kiddo? Swear to me that you're alright."
