Raine had been hoping for more of a distinction there, between the different sorts of approaches that let a person manipulate the elements, but she'd take what she could get. She was pretty familiar with the sound of pet peeves. "Ah. I recognize the term chi, at least," she said instead. "That makes some things a bit clearer."

Regardless of Sep's administration habits, something about the man inspired best effort. Raine would have reined herself in soon enough anyway; it was one thing to get carried away with academic interests when there were others expecting it and compensating, and another entirely to let herself do that when things or people depended on her.

The offer of continued conversation came as a little bit of a startlement, but a good one. "I'd enjoy the chance to talk more in depth," Raine said, pleased. "I believe I know where the Brazen Turtle is. When are you free?"
