She suddenly wondered if Sabriel's world had the technology of her own as well. Hayley was so used to magic being presented as something in fantasy, when there was nothing else to be had for weaponry beyond bows and swords, that the idea of a modern era or a world like her own with the addition of magic was genuinely jarring. "Huh. Er- uh, yeah. I'll see if I can get that too."
She shook her head to dismiss the surprise and regain her expression, shifting her gaze to the intersection again. Once neutrality returned, Hayley glanced sideways at him and couldn't help another smile, one mirroring his own. It helped to know that death wasn't part of the magic, although it didn't guarantee Solomon didn't go around killing people.
