Dibuixa´ls-hi un somriure

Characters: Kal-El & Kon-El
Date: Before the palace siege
Location: Kal-El's fortress of solitude
Situation: A man and his clone spending some quality time together. What better way to do it than remembering family that's now gone?
Warnings/Rating: Sadness. Will add if needed.

Kal didn't quite see himself as a distant man. He kept his secrets, of course: everyone who had tried to get truly close to him when only knowing half of who he was could tell there was something more to him, something he kept to himself... but he was still completely honest in his caring and helpful attitude, in a farmboy kind of way. Both Clark and Superman were there for anyone who might need a friendly ear, a helping hand or even a tight hug.

But the fact that even know, even after the years they had spent in this place fixing their relationship he could tell Kon wasn't still fully comfortable around him made it clear to the Man of steel that saying he had been distant with the kid might be an understatement. Karen, Kara, even Cir-El had been an easy addition to the family. Chris had accepted Clark as his father even before the words had been uttered. Galatea had needed some work, but considering she had been made to kill him he called every little progress a win.

But for some reason his relationship with Kon made him feel like Sisyphus. He would make progress, pushing the boulder up the mountains of Tartarus but eventually he'd say something wrong, ignore him when he didn't realize the kid was in need, bring up the wrong thing at the worst time and the boulder would fall down again. It's like there was something he was supposed to be saying, something he was supposed to be realizing and it never quite hit him.

The point was, Kon was family. A little brother, someone that no matter how had been entrusted to Kal's care and had become part of the house of El the moment he gave him the name. So he deserved to feel like part of that house, and Kal decided it was time he heard the only words the best son of El there had even been had left behind.

"We're there." He said once they reached the spot on the mountains where he'd made the fortress, landing and looking back to make sure Kon was still following.
