As his concentration was broken (or, rather, he had managed to shove everything away from the surface), the scenery surrounding them shifted back to its natural state of creepy yet plain. It was a special kind of decor for a special and particularly twisted kind of villain. Cain could only hope that they had battered Malicant down enough to try his hand at some other poor saps and let the two of them recover now that they knew how to fight it all off. Even thinking about it was asking for trouble in a place like this, but he was willing to take the chance. He needed a bit of forced optimism right now, even as his laughter continued to shake his shoulders and start to hurt his sides.

When Raine knelt down, he was dimly aware of it, just as he was dimly aware of what was still around him. It was only enough awareness to prepare in case something were to hop out and take another stab at incapacitating him, everything else turning into some kind of unimportant blob of sensory information that he couldn't yet deal with sorting. Regardless of all that, she said something in what he interpreted to be a concerned tone and he squeezed her hand back to show that he was still there.

His other hand finally dropped from his eyes, pressed to the floor to help balance him as a few fresh tears raced along the damp tracks on his face and dropped with little fanfare. It was that which finally allowed him to take a long, deep breath of the air around them and begin to regain composure. "I..."
