It struck a nerve but he didn't back down, Vergil was too stubborn to back down. "Then do not insult him as to say that." He practically hissed. His arms remained crossed by sheer will alone, he wanted to smack the taste out of her mouth, but that was dishonorable and a part of him now very much cared about that, cared about her.

"He's a fool, I can tell you without a doubt he did not intend to use you, woman. He sees the best, hopes for the best. Likely suspected better of me. And I bet he lies about me enough as it is. He does it to protect himself, to guard his heart. As I said he is not as complex as one may think. He is a good man, one who has lost too much, hurt too much." He turned to walk from her, just to look up at the window, for a moment pain had flashed in his eyes before he turned away.
