Anton gave Vergil the sword, carefully as was due its status as an heirloom, and at first did not respond; but his silence was thoughtful rather than condemning. "Thank you," he said, and found a seat on the chair.

"There are many reasons a man might attack another and feel guilt for the fact after," he observed. "The Hotel is a haven for all, not simply those who can control their impulses. It is a haven for all those who need haven, and usually those who find control difficult are among them. I would not have you feel you cannot enter the Hotel due to some past mistake."

If Vergil felt the need for space on its own merit, certainly Anton wasn't going to stop him remaining away; but it was quite another thing for Vergil to feel he ought to be shunned from the Hotel when that fact simply wasn't true.
