They're purely defensive, it's unlikely the kedan will be able to modify them to do harm, and they'll help the Metalworkers protect themselves from the Snakes. Tony's not a fan of the Metalworkers, but he dislikes the Snakes and their de-facto martial law even more, just on principle.
