[Midnight Hotel] March catch-all
Characters: Anyone, everyone.
Date: Month of March, 2016.
Location: The Midnight Hotel.
Situation: Catch-all post! Feel free to use this post for anything that happens within the Midnight Hotel during the month of March, using the subject header to label specific rooms or for specific people. See also the OOC note at the bottom.
Warnings/Rating: None thus far.
This month the Hotel witnesses slightly less traffic than previously, thanks to the progressing thaw—though there are still a number of kedan who take advantage of the commons and fireplaces. In spite of the thaw, as it progresses the Hotel shows no evidence of internal flooding—any water leakage is due solely to being tracked in through the entrance.
The observant may notice the stairs have, in greater prominence than usual, a sigil at the rail’s base and height which turns the steps into an escalator. However, of greatest note this month is that a good section of the Hotel’s ground-floor commons has been sectioned off for construction—about half of the part which is the ‘secondary’ dining area. From back wall to the wall shared with the laundry, enough area has been partitioned for a whole new room … which is, in fact, the point. The workers are primarily kedan, though Anton himself can be regularly seen stripping off his jacket to put his hands to work either in labouring or sketching blueprints on one of the dining-room tables.
The actual construction of the new room will progress quite easily, including a door into the dining-areas and one into the laundry. Those unfamiliar with the sigils which dictate the Hotel’s state will get ample opportunity to watch Anton engraving wards into the walls, both inside and out of the new room; the sigils needed for this will vanish from visible sight upon completion. Although all the physical work and wards will be done by mid-month, the doors will remain shut and ‘under construction’ until the fourth week of March, owing to the complexities of building a back-door which leads outside the Hotel without interfering with its interdimensional nature.
By month’s end, however, the larger back-door will be complete—though it will only look onto an area in Central (not, incidentally, the corresponding street behind Central’s front entrance). At that time Anton will open a register for those who wish to use sections of the new room for storage or as small work-areas.
If anyone asks, he’s building a garage. If anyone asks why, he’ll answer that a friend, who is something of an idiot, has resumed a longstanding love affair with a Bentley and has paid a fair sum to buy a special room for her.
The Midnight Hotel, after all, aims to please.
