Unless soul gems have anything to do with technology, or portals, or killing Krei himself, Alistair can't imagine why Robert would have anything to do with them.
And then he remembers that he's not supposed to know anything about that, and that Skulduggery is a detective. Fantastic.
(In Krei's defense, he's not often in the awkward position of trying to cover up the fact that someone might be trying to kill him.)
