[EVENT|4TH WALL] THE NEWCOMERS’ ARRIVAL | APRIL 15-22

Characters: ALL and plus ones.
Date: April 15-22 2015 (2016 in-game)
Location: Farmlands outside the city walls, but this log can also be used for locations within the city.
Situation: Spring planting - fourth wall event, week one!
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings as needed.

The days for the festival dawn sunny if a bit chilly, but the air is clear and the soggy ground has dried enough that there isn’t too much mud in the lanes between fields and homesteads. The broad dirt path to the Woodsmen’s land leads past the tram-line construction, lined with waving ribbons on sticks along the sides. The Woodsmen’s territory circles the city, separated from the city’s walls by five hundred yards of neutral land.

The festival’s central area is Liangken’s Clearing, and this is where the festival will begin and end each day. Liangken is an ancient tree, among the oldest on the turtle’s back. Though it doesn’t flower or bear much in the way of leaves anymore, the kedan have cultivated it carefully and now it’s an excellent representation for the revitalisation of old wisdom.

The lanes between the fields and homesteads will house the stalls, contests and walking areas. The Woodsmen will be keeping an eye on these to prevent anyone from walking off the marked paths. The homesteads provide ‘hotspots’ in among the lanes and fields, with Woodsmen families lending their yards to the comfort and entertainment of their guests.

In general, the Woodsmen are a taciturn, soft-spoken lot who nevertheless take great pride in their work. Their lands are all but sacred -- they accept no attitude, no trespassing, no attempts to thwart their authority. This causes some noticeable tension with the Snakes, who are accustomed to being the sole enforcers within the city; but though there may be some ill tempers and raised voices, at no point will anyone come to blows. It’s hard to argue with someone built like a brick wall and carrying sharp farm implements.

The Woodsmen are a touch anxious about having strangers on their land and this shows in them being overly officious or bossy, but at the same time their pride shows clearly and they are eager to show off the state of their lands, their greenhouses, and their farming processes -- practically without being asked. The residents of Keeliai tend to think of the Woodsmen as ‘cowards’, and the Woodsmen are taking this opportunity to prove themselves otherwise with feats of strength and tall tales.

Due to the farmers’ hours of “early to bed and early to rise”, the festival ends in the early evening at sundown, but begins again before dawn -- usually by greeting the sun with a song.

While Heojin and his bodyguards are open to everyone (including fourth-wall characters!), they are not available for small talk and general directionless CR. For the integrity of the mod’s inbox, please only request a thread with him if you already have an idea of what you’d like your character to ask/do. Other NPCs can be requested by sending a PM to the appropriate journals directly, with the same guidelines.

The top-level comments are for the festival, but fourth-wall characters should feel free to use the rest of the post for anything within the city of Keeliai itself! Just remember to label the top-level comment for location and date.

"What?" Hiro's taken aback for a second, because he hasn't even thought about - well, he has, but with no established rings or much in the way of tech in Keeliai, it's not like he could even if he wanted to. He waves his hands, hastily trying to reassure her.

"No! No, no bot fighting, I promise, this is...well, it's a good thing. It's about...Tadashi."

Hiro swallows a lump in his throat. He's only guessing - because she hasn't asked about Tadashi at all - but. He glances around, quickly making sure Tadashi hasn't figured out where he went yet. "Look, this might be a little tough to take in, but this place is like...nowhere near home. It's a whole other universe. And Tadashi's here."

A valuable lesson about sassin' the big kids. Hoo, boy. Bad choice of words; like he hasn't heard that one a few times before. He balls his fists, feeling the metaphorical hackles going up, and only by taking a second to count to five really quickly does he manage to keep his cool.

Mostly.

"Nice trick," he mutters between clenched teeth, jaw tightening. Yeah, okay, pretty cool, but he's seen a lot of weird stuff around. And then he does the stupid thing. "Your mom a chameleon or something?"

Yuri just watched as the Woodsmen relented but pointed at and threatened Rita. Hey it's actually not him for once! But when they were finally gone, the questions started.

"Yeah about that. It's going to sound pretty crazy."

Because it was crazy.

"So... we're kinda on the back of a giant turtle."

"Idealistic, or perhaps authoritarian. Might say obedient, but that descriptor comes with an unwanted negative connotation. Interesting, all the same. More acclimated to consequentialism from my companions. No judgement, merely observation."

He acknowledged the festival happening all around him before answering Lyn's question.

"Hungry only for answers for now. Do you see anyone that might prove helpful?"

Where have you been all his (very long) life?

"A scientist, eh?" If anything, North was even more impressed. Experience had always taught him that those who believed themselves to the the most logical were the least likely to dismiss things they could not see. Ironically, unable to see because they were far too quick to dismiss. "...admittedly, I am at loss as to why we are here also. But I am sure, with fine minds such as ours, we will come to bottom very soon."

Running Tests on Seashells

Mordin Solus first appeared in the fire sector, where he met a young human woman who accompanied him as he got his bearings in this strange place. They split up in search of someone who could tell them what was going on.

[OOC: Maybe you????]

The second day, he rented a motorcycle and drove to the edge of the shell. Four days later he returned to the city, sans all the supplied he brought, and plus one basket of sea shells, and perhaps a few personal demons calmed.

[OOC: You can tag him to/from or at the beach, if you can think of a reason for your character to be so far from the city]

From there he headed into the depths of the city, seeking out the poorest areas and attempting to help out where he could. This eventually led him to a Black Market Clinic in the Earth Sector, run as an alternative to the Snake-Controlled hospital in the Central Sector. The Kedan that ran it were averse to letting a foreigner volunteer, but his medical expertise was hard to turn away, and the foreigner presence served to discourage the recent attempts by the snakes to shut the clinic down.

[OOC: Open for tagging here too!]

There are far, far too many people here for the wolf.

He had been in his domain, lording over the blood-red leaves as was right and proper, and the world around him shifted - it shouldn't do that - and he found himself in the middle of a festival of sorts.

The size of a large pony, he'd managed to attract a fair few kedan children, all of them following him and petting his sides and giggling as he struggles to maintain his dignity. A flower garland has been wound around one of the ram's horns spiraling out from his head, and he's occasionally growling at the children to go away - which makes them laugh, dash away, and then come back, improbably, with more.

"What in all the realms have I done to be cursed with a retinue of children?" he asks nobody in particular, turning his eyes heavenward.

His jaw dropped. Eyes widening, then narrowing in suspicion. He wanted to accuse the boy of pranking him--it was entirely something he would do, after all--but there was something about his face. The certainty with which he could feel in...well...the usual place.

"I hope you realize what you are telling me is...to put frankly...most unbelievable?" Still, there was a humorous twinkle in his eye, well away of the irony to his statement. "How long is a while, precisely?"

There were times when Bakura appreciated Raine's forthrightness and ability to delve straight to the heart of the matter.

This was not one of them.

Bakura sighed, flicking away the rind and nodding at a section of low stone wall nearby, one of the ones used to mark out the planting fields. It was out of the way of the majority of the crowd, and he sat on the edge, shoes dragging just against the dirt.

"It's not that easy," he said again. "I didn't want to die, but I did, and... in light of that, it would have been good to have been done, with everything."

"For a while, they didn't. You're right."

Before. But she didn't know how much he knew about Malicant and that whole business.

"Things have been getting better. Ever since we all came back. Some of the adults still look at us funny, but you're not going to get in trouble just for talking to them."
unetrustworthy: (hmm...)

Politics, indeed.

She was half tempted to ask precisely what politics those were, if only for curiosity's sake.

"There's no Republic City here. Each of the Sectors of Keelai are named after an element, yes...but they aren't Nations or Kingdoms."

Raine trailed Bakura out of the crowd, settled on the wall next to him rather than stand and face him. Close enough it wouldn't take much leaning to bump shoulders, but giving him some space at least.

He was, suddenly and forcefully, putting her in mind of Mithos again, of the tiredness his spirit had carried at the end. That was still concerning, and Raine wished it would stop, though she was aware it wasn't likely to. "Everything," she echoed, inviting some clarification. "Not an honest wish for death, then, but simply the lack of an objection?" She considered that, fingers tapping idly on the stone next to her. "You say that in the past tense. What of now?"

"...you would be a metal head."

Call it a hunch. Something about the hair.

"But, no, I'm sorry to say they've never heard of any of the music from our worlds. It's been so long, I'm almost starting to miss boy bands."

"Can't leave?" That doesn't make any sense. None of this makes any sense, but that's the most immediately important thing, so that's what he's focusing on right now.

Roxas' eyebrows now drop into a low, heavy line of consternation. "What are you talking about? Why can't we just use a corridor of darkness to go back?" Which is to say, no, he hasn't tried yet. He hasn't had the chance yet, okay?

Zuko hadn't felt much like celebrating either, and so the festival hadn't interested him much. So it's while he's walking through the streets that he catches a glimpse of something, or rather someone, that was familiar.

The Water Tribe blue that was distinctly not Katara and that unmistakeable hairstyle. Zuko was stunned at first but managed to find his voice to call out to her.

"Korra? ... Korra!"

And then he was walking quickly in her direction.

Was it really her?

"I still have it in my room." He'd loved that dumb little robot. After the plane crash, he'd pulled it out of storage and taken it to the Rhodes' with him.

"It's not so bad, once you get used to it. There's just some... pretty big things to get used to." Are you ready to hear about giant turtles and magic bullshit, Howard?

Well, there are many strange things here, not the least the fact that he's here - still without knowing how and why. So Law makes a gesture as if he was shrugging, which might look weird seeing as he only has one arm now, but maybe he's just not used to that fact yet.

"Here, or in my 'world'? If it's here, then maybe this strange huge tree. It's still quite alive, even though it doesn't look it. And I don't know what sort of ritual is connected to it, but they seem to worship it. Just a moment ago, somebody wanted me to give it offerings."

Looking at her carefully, he asks "You didn't happen to arrive here on your own?"

"Yeah, a turtle," Gene says with a resigned smile, and shrugs. "Honestly, not even close to the weirdest thing about this place. I mean, we are still on a planet, but the turtle's on the planet, and we're on the turtle."

Law glances at the older guy, because he's been doing exactly the same.

"Noticed anything of interest?"

He sounds almost indifferent, but in reality, he's anything but. He needs some clue about his whereabouts, and fast.

(He needs a ship straight to Dressrosa, but let's keep things realistic here.)
