A; July 4, 2016; closed to Solomon; their apartment;

Genis had been gone that morning when she woke, which set off mental warning bells. Restaurant work didn’t usually lend itself to early hours, she’d observed. But he’d been there the previous evening, and she would have heard him leaving, and his bed wasn’t made. Something could conceivably have happened to him, but there was no evidence for that.

Far more likely he’d simply gone.

Raine wanted to be sure. She stopped by the restaurant Genis worked at, to ask if they had seen him. Did a circuit of the city, a path she knew well, focusing on mana rather than any other senses. That resulted in nothing, either. Impossible to prove a negative.

But he didn’t come home that night.

She leaned in the doorway to his room, arms wrapped around herself, staring more through his empty bed than at it. It would be worse, she knew, if she didn’t know where he had gone, if she didn’t know that he would be safe back in Aselia. Still loss gripped her heart and prickled at the back of her throat, and her vision was blurring for reasons not at all to do with her fractured soul gem.

“He’s gone,” she said aloud, when she heard Solomon nearby. The words were more difficult than she’d anticipated to speak.

B; July 7, 2016; closed to Aqua; Healers' Guild;

The Healers’ Guild, a few days after Genis’ vanishing;

Try as she might, Raine couldn’t fully push away the possibility Skulduggery had shared with her, and that particular thing was not something she wanted to talk over with Solomon. She didn’t know what to do with this, and she needed the input of someone sensible, and her brother was... not available.

Aqua, though primarily a coworker, was friendly, and they had a level of understanding. Even simply a second viewpoint could be of help, even if she was not greatly familiar with Bakura. So, after some time trying to run through things herself, Raine gave up.

The next day at the Guild, then, when neither was busy and the end of the day was coming on, Raine tracked down Aqua, tapping at the doorframe of the room she was in. “Do you have a moment?”

C; any time during July; OPEN; Healers' Guild;

The day-to-day running of the Guild was what Raine threw herself into subsequently. Lacking a brother to look after, she redirected that energy to healing everyone within reach who needed it, occasionally to the point of smothering. Teaching what she could of her artes to those few kedan who could pick them up, more conventional first aid to those who could not, and tracking the zhyris as well took up much of the rest of her time.

When she wasn't in the middle of any of those, she could often be found either at the front desk (the budget did not allow for a dedicated receptionist), or in the smaller room that had come to be designated as her office, farther back in the Guild building, always with her head bent over a large, solid old book. Anyone observing the book would notice a nick in the upper right corner of the cover, and that the language was not kedan, nor in fact anything else in the Latin alphabet.

Occasionally there would be a light in her hand and a thoughtful look on her face. Murmuring under her breath and solidly focused on that light, she wouldn't notice any incomers on those occasions until they tapped her or the desk.

D; wildcard; OPEN;

[ooc; Raine will be harder to find outside of the Guild or her home this month, but will be making some visits to the Hotel and markets, if infrequently. If you'd rather something there, or a more specific starter, tag in as you will or drop a line to me, via pm or [plurk.com profile] makaricrow.]
