"You're telling me," he says, curling his hands around the mug. It's hot, but it's helping to ground him - and the mild pain is something he almost thinks he deserves.

After a moment, he lifts it and takes a sip. Still too hot to drink comfortably, but it is helping to shock him out of his funk.

"I'm sorry you had to see that."
