"That's the thing, no one knows," Klaus explained, his tone still even. "But it seems to be inevitable. I've been told very few of those originally brought here remain. Some have gone and been brought back from later points in their lives, but mostly the return trip tends to be permanent."

He took a deep breath. Klause very much doubted Irvine would want to hear this next bit, but lying to him could only incite another incident.
