Closed to Milyn and Jack

Characters: Toph and Milyn | Toph and Jack

Warnings/Rating: N/A?

A. Closed to Milyn - The humidity hung over the city like a limp, dead thing, slumping over the rooftops, pressing everything to the earth. Even the slightest of movements was a challenge.

Where Toph was going didn't help.

Some months previous, she had pried at Milyn a little too closely, plying her tongue against the kedan woman, all but accusing her of knowing more about the zhyris and the newly soul gemmed-kedan than she was letting on. Milyn was new, at least in Toph's perspective, likely one more in the line of Eshai and Evandau -- yet another imperious being who kept tight-lipped and ignored the fact that they'd called the Foreigners to help in the first place. Milyn's quick, meandering way hadn't helped either, screaming of someone with something to hide who was desperate to bury her listener in words to keep them from finding it.

Several people since had told Toph that this was untrue -- including Aang, which counted for something. Milyn had been instrumental in the time that she'd been gone, they said. She'd helped them get back to Keelai, all of them, after Malicant.

That counted for something too.

And then there was the not-so-small matter that Milyn could apparently provide what Toph wanted most: A chance to be home, if only in spirit, to move forward in a life she'd long left still. It was best that Toph extend her peace offering and put her initial misgivings to rest.

That didn't necessarily make it any easier. Doing this kind of thing had never been Toph's strong suite. But one foot after another, she pushed herself forward in the heavy heat, coming to rest at the clinic door.

And slipped inside.

B. Closed to Jack - She waited for him outside the South Gate at the appointed time, leaning into the shadow of the wall. The Justicar had already arrived and didn't seem to be wasting any time, organizing her people with all apparent haste.

If they were going to do this and have a hope of being effective, they had to move.
