Egypt, after all, was not the only empire, or government, or whatever generic leadership structure you wanted to call it, that had ever done such heinous things. It still happened in her own time; killing was seen as a solution to a problem. And that problem, ostensibly, was freedom. Not just patriotic 'MERICA freedom, but freedom of thought, freedom to disagree and call attention to wrongs. The presence of the Chihuelans echoed this kind of cruelty.

"Not quite every record, though," Pepper points out. "You're still around." She tilts her head slightly, trying to interpret his anger. Was it personal?
