Event | Masquerade Ball
Characters: All
Date: The Evening of October 30th
Location: The Courtyard of Public Opinion
Situation: Valdis and 'Rue' have put together an All Hallows Eve Masquerade Ball.
Warnings/Rating: None
The day has finally arrived and the morning and afternoon are spent putting together what will be the scene of the Masquerade Ball at the Courtyard of Public Opinion. Kedan can be seen coming and going, carrying in decorations and lights and later on, various foods and desserts. Valdis, and Rue can occasionally be glimpsed directing people and moving things around, but anyone not a part of the setup will be ushered on and discouraged from lingering.
As night falls, the Courtyard will be brightly lit and ready for guests...

"That WOULD be much harder." Enjolras laughed too, counting himself lucky that the people he'd spent the most time with had been able to be reasoned with. On that matter at least. On others, well. Marius was Marius, wasn't he? "You would think someone could come up with something a bit easier by now."

Because she hadn't forgotten. That she was, from the perspective of many on the Turtle, she was from the "Future". More than 200 years from Enjorlas' time.

"I'm sure they have many more important things to worry about over the flavor of medicine. I would hate to bother them."

"And especially now it becomes even less practical, doesn't it? Still, a good idea, in theory. Perhaps it's simply not found its time."

Because she wasn't disillusioned enough to assume that they would ever be done with war. Not after listening to so many other stories, on top of a lifetime's worth of her own.
"...and until then, no licorice for me."

He does still believe a peace is possible, outside of heaven, but he can respect where others find it hard to now.
"Until then." He smiled, raising his sword a little, to catch the light as he did so. . "There IS always peppermint."
no subject
"I do like peppermint."

It's infectious, seeing her giggle like that, and again, Enjolras is reminded, not of Eponine, but of the feeling that he had around her, that protective instinct combined with happiness at seeing HER happy, and wanting to make it happen. It's a nice feeling, like having almost-family here.
"I like mine best in cocoa." He confides.

She had a curious look on her face at the thought. Clearly betraying the fact that she not only had never tried such a mixture before, but had never even heard of it. (In truth, the only things Midii had ever heard of putting cocoa in cocoa. Maybe a touch of whipped cream, or--on special occasions--a marshmallow)

She'd had both separately, and from what she could remember, peppermint had been very strong.

"It depends on who is making the drink, really, and careful measurement." Enjolras smiles, making a little face in memory. "I've had a few deeply overpowering ones when Haru, the youngest son of my kedan family...eh, the family who owns my favorite cafe in Wood, who took me in during that ritual a few years ago, got started making drinks. But he improved, oh QUITE a lot. And came up with some good tea ideas as well. It takes a steady hand more than anything else, to prevent it. I'm told it takes a lot of practice, to make certain something tastes good while being inventive and unusual. It certainly looks it."
no subject
He said it so easily.
Not that Midii had any problems with the family she stayed with. They were all very nice. Sweet. Their children were too young to be modifying cocoa recipes as of yet, but the oldest was getting up there--what was he now, 7? 8?
"I would like to try it sometime." If for no other reason than curiosity's sake. "Since it seems to come so highly recommended."
no subject
And he missed how easy, how nice, it all had been. It couldn't go back to the same, ever, but maybe it was coming back a bit.
"I can take you, if you'd like. It's been a while since we've really properly caught up."
no subject
"I think I'd like that very much."

"I suppose someone has to."
(She was joking; he always struck her as a thinker. A very verbal, long-winded thinking, but she would never once have denied the fact that he was a person who's mind always seemed to be running in some fashion.)

In a vastly different world, the girl could have been the doctor's daughter, he thought. She had the same wisdom that Combeferre had always shared, the same way of looking at the world and seeing everything within it.
It was rare for someone to have that ability, especially someone so young as Midii, Enjolras thought, and yes, he'd always been a thinker and quite long winded at that, but still, he appreciated the way that her perspective allowed him to see MORE of the world, to understand its greater picture.
"I appreciate it very much, the thinking, and the talking." he said now, instead. "You show me things I'd not thought of, or help me to discover more to investigate on my own. It's rare to have a friend that one can share those quiet moments with. I'm grateful to have you."

Enjorlas was always so FOCUSED on his subjects. So passionate. Not to mention, familiar. With everything that had been taken away from her over the years, any lingering semblance of familiarity, she found herself clinging to. It was a comfort amongst the constant unknowns.
"And I, you." She nodded her agreement. Then, in a rare sentimental moment: "I often wondered...if I had an older brother growing up...if he would have been anything like you."
They had both grown up in times of war, after all. It wasn't unthinkable to assume a sibling who might remember a time before the assassination of Heero Yuy would have had Enjorlas' passion for speaking his mind.
no subject
The familiarity of those he cared about? That WAS special, though. He smiled at Midii's statement there, looking thoughtful.
"I think I should have been proud to have a sister like you. I am not sure how well I might have done in such a world as the one that you survived, but, perhaps together, it could have been done. I would hope any theoretical older brother for you would do much the same."
He would have liked to have seen a world in need of change, after all. Enjolras had forever looked for something to speak up for, or against, in a world that had shifted at his earliest age, from Napoleon to the King, to constitutional monarchy that was ruled by the rich and none of those had fit France right. He was used to changes, and to seeking ways to improve the world around him. Perhaps it would have worked out after all.
no subject
He would have had to, if he were a member of her family.
