[Midnight Hotel] November catch-all

Date: Month of November, 2015 (2016 in-game).
Location: The Midnight Hotel.
Situation: Catch-all post! Feel free to use this post for anything that happens within the Midnight Hotel during the month, using the subject header to label specific rooms or for specific people. See also the OOC note at the bottom.

The Hotel’s processes are chugging along in November. Some absences due to Foreigners leaving means that the Hotel employees are fewer, and while nothing changes in terms of services, things are a little bit hectic. For this reason, some of the kedanese part-timers will be more prominent—particularly at the desk and in the lobby, and keeping the peace.

There’s also that incident with Ravel becoming a bunny rabbit, which puts a little extra strain on the staff, having lost one of their own … temporarily.

The kedan who know Anton well are tiptoeing around him a bit this month. Some of them witnessed him with China at the masquerade and there are some rumours going around the Hotel that the proprietor has a squeeze on the side. Those who actually mention it inside his hearing find out quickly not to do it again, and even on good days he’s tense and almost grumpy. The only times his mood lightens at all this month are when he has the care of the tiny white bunny Erskine’s become.

He gave a small nod. Klaus was not an idiot - Anton's dour mood had not seemed to pass or even ease up.

"Of course," He said, stepping past the sorcerer and into the office. He waited until Anton was settled before he spoke again.

"I take it from your expression my efforts have been unwelcome...?"

"Not unwelcome," Anton hazarded, closing the door behind Klaus. "But ... unhelpful." He stood in something like a parade rest, the nearest he could find to relaxation these days, with his hands clasped behind his back. A second later he realised he'd done it in front of the door, and stepped aside.

"I realise and appreciate your intent," he said. "But I am having some ... difficulties, and at this point in time your gesture is only serving to highlight the manner in which I am failing."

"Then I apologize," Klaus said with a small bow of his head. "I will stop immediately."

He folded his hands in his lap, and looked back up to Anton. As much as Klaus tried to keep his expression neutral, he looked worried. His brow was knit, and though he was seated, there was a slight forward lean to his posture and a tightness to his mouth.

"I would understand if you do not want to go into the details, Mr Shudder. However, if you would like to talk, the offer is there. And if there is anything I can do, you need only say so."

A heart-to-heart wasn't something Anton had intended to have, but when Klaus raised the issue he paused. He had already spoken to Skulduggery, but ... but. Anton was wary of making the same mistake both Skulduggery and Erskine had: not telling the people who ought to know.

"I am--having some difficulties controlling my emotions," he said finally. "I do not recall if I've told you much about my magic, but emotionally stability is a ... requirement."

Klaus didn't press the issue. If Anton wanted to say more, he would. Klaus also din't say he understood; he didn't know what Anton was dealing with or the extent of it. The only thing Klaus knew was what it meant to have to be constantly aware of your emotional state.

"You haven't spoken much on the matter, no," Klaus said. "But... I find that when the darker thoughts begin to creep in, work alone is not enogh to stay them. If ever the mood takes you to join me for a meal or a walk, I would not say no."

It was surprising, and somehow relieving, that Klaus didn't ask for details. That was the sort of person Klaus was, of course; and yet Anton had grown used to needing to give others an explanation, for their own sake. Klaus could certainly guess the danger, and yet he didn't ask.

Anton was still for another moment, considering. Did he feel able to have another talk? Not really. Not given China, or the fact that Anton wasn't completely sure Klaus knew the extent of China's ... influences. If not, it wasn't a discussion Anton felt up to.

But it was calming to know there was someone else he could talk to. And if he couldn't, then talking wasn't needed. "Thank you," Anton said, more quietly. "I may find you later this evening--or tomorrow morning, if you're amenable then."
