[EVENT | TAVIMBI] HAPOYELA'S BLESSINGS

Characters: Come one, come all!
Date: March 5th
Location: The Sabonile Temple, in Hatal
Situation: The Foreigners, as well as many prominent kedan, have been invited to the great Temple of Hapoyela in Hatal, where the Sabonile priest class wishes them to participate in a celebration!
Warnings/Rating: Character nudity in the after-feast comment. Indicate content warnings in subject headers as applicable.

---

According to the Sabonile priests, Hapoyela wishes to properly welcome the Foreigners and the kedan to the full scope of Tavimbi's hospitality, and has instructed the clergy to organize a suitably impressive celebration for the citizens of the oldest living Great Turtle. All Foreigners, as well as many notable kedan including the Family heads, are invited to attend a grand feast and celebration at the Sabonile Temple, one of the largest buildings in all of Hatal.

The clergy has promised an evening of good food, lively entertainment, and the magnificent blessings of Hapoyela. At the same time, the Sabonile will be hosting a soup kitchen in the Temple's courtyard, feeding the hungry and the poor, as dictated by their religious tenets and beliefs.

While those who receive an invitation to the event, which the Sabonile consider a sacred charge from Hapoyela, are not required to attend... it could be seen as a disrespect to their deity.

MOD NOTE: For the naked after party section, soul gems are still allowed to be worn. If your character isn't up for stripping down, they can excuse themselves from that segment of the evening, which will have no negative repercussions with the Sabonile. In this case, they will simply do a wave-over blessing from Hapoyela around the person, and bid them a pleasant evening before they go.

Obi-Wan applauded as well during the story, quite fascinated with the tale and by the means this man told it. He could only assume that it was some sort of magic that allowed him to conjure shadows like that. Once the story is done, he watches as Solomon approaches and sets down next to him.

"There are a few of us about." Obi-Wan had caught sight of other foreigners here and there, including ones he knew. And it seemed many of them had gone through hard times as several also sported scars of their own. Obi-Wan was no exception to this. While his body wasn't littered with them as some were, he did have a few. Particularly the slash mark on his left arm and another on his left thigh, courtesy of Count Dooku.

"That was quite the story you told. I'd never seen or heard anything quite like it."

"More of us secure in themselves than I thought, then." Solomon, on the whole, didn't have a particularly good view of people, and at the same time a better view of people than others assumed he did. He wasn't on particularly good terms with most Foreigners, at least not enough to assume most would have the self-security to wander around without any clothes on.

On his part, he can't see Obi-Wan's physical scars; there are one or two pockets in his soul which indicate something similar, but metaphysical scars can be caused by so many things--and are so common--that Solomon doesn't bother to bring them up.

"It's a legend of my homeland," Solomon explained, and then added dryly: "Though it's not often told using shadows, to be fair. I take it you aren't familiar with Earth, then?"

Obi-Wan didn't have many physical scars really. Most of his were certainly those that were unseen. Mental and emotional ones, especially from a great deal of loss throughout his life. Some deeper and fresher than others. Ones that he covered up quite well, but were still very much there.

"I'm afraid not. I have heard mention of Earth, but that is the extent of it. I assume that is where you are from?"

Nothing was strictly missing from the man, at least--though there was an element Solomon couldn't define. It interacted with the man's soul in a manner not unlike the way magic interacted with the mages Solomon knew, and yet not the same.

Near enough for his purposes, at least. Power was had, in this man, even if Solomon didn't recognise the manner of it.

"That's correct," Solomon agreed with a quirk of his mouth. "Most Foreigners seem to be. Ireland is my nation; it has some very old tales. Quite the magical place."

It was a casual comment, to see how his conversation partner reacted to the word 'magical'.
hadthehighground: (oh I insist)

"Sounds charming," Obi-Wan replied.

"I've been to many worlds in my galaxy. Been told many stories, but this is quite unique. How do you do it?"

He had to assume it was some form of magic. Nearly all the Foreigners had some mystical power or another. Thus he didn't seem particularly surprised at the world 'magical'.
peacefullywreathed: (just take one step at a time)

how would you feel about Sol recognising Obi's name as being from SW if he hears it?

[personal profile] peacefullywreathed 2016-03-23 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Not much of a reaction. Either his conversational partner was too used to magic, or lacked a sense of humour. Or both.

"Control shadows, you mean?" Solomon asked dryly, and then his brow furrowed thoughtfully. "You know, no one's ever asked that before. You may as well ask how I breathe--it's just something that's always been there, even when I didn't know it. I suppose we can start with a sense of connectiveness--have you ever felt connected to something beyond your physical body, something tangible which you can change?"
hadthehighground: (you don't say)

Its fine! Other people have!

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-03-23 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps a bit of both really. He's become accustomed to people here having all sorts of magic. Plus he is a little on the stiff side. Obi-Wan does have a sense of humor but it's a dry and sarcastic sort.

"For as long as I can remember, yes. We call it the Force. It's an energy that is all around us and apart of us. Someone who is sensitive to it can manipulate it just as you did your shadows. So, yes, I think I understand."

cheers!

[personal profile] peacefullywreathed 2016-03-28 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
The Force. "Oh." Solomon sighed a little, but it was half a chuckle too. "I've heard of your people, then, yes." Better not mention the fact it was all fiction. One never knew how someone would react, and Solomon found it much more fun to pretend information had been gotten by other means.

He smile a little more at the thought of comparing the Force and necromancy. Wouldn't Skulduggery have a fit. "Then yes, it's quite similar. Magic in my world ultimately presents in different forms, and many people don't realise the connection is there for quite a while--if ever--but it always is. For me, magic connects to shadows. For others, it might connect to elements--air, fire, water and earth--or to physical attributes--or pure energy. And so on. What should I call you, then?"

It wasn't quite a lecture, but Solomon's cadence was the sort used by teachers with long careers and a familiarity of verbal guidance. Particularly the little testing topic-shift at the end, to make sure students were listening.

Heard of his people? There's a momentary surprise, but its then quickly gone as he remembers that there are others from different worlds that know of him. Including some from this 'Earth' that has been spoken of.

"Interesting," Obi-Wan comments as he listens to Solomon's explanation. He certainly didn't mind the teaching tone. In fact, he was quite use to it. But a magic connected to elements of nature? Certainly that had to involve useful skills.

"My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi," he then says at the request for a name.
peacefullywreathed: (of life so incomplete)

[personal profile] peacefullywreathed 2016-04-08 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
And the name, Solomon also recognised. Too bad he can't tell just what Obi-Wan's age is, and therefore from where he might be in the films--that is. Timeline.

"And yet you don't seem terribly interested," he noted, and shrugged. He supposed he couldn't blame a man for not thinking much of Force-like powers, given the Force. As Solomon recalled, it was practically a deity, and Jedi were zealots--not unlike necromancers in their own fashion.
hadthehighground: (Orly?)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-04-08 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Obi-Wan chuckled softly, "Not at all. Forgive me. It's simply a difficult concept to wrap my mind around. As much as you say its like the Force, it also sounds very different from what I'm accustomed to."

If he hadn't been interested, he wouldn't have stopped for the story to begin with.

"But I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage. You seem to know more about my people than I know about yours. Perhaps you could elaborate further?"
peacefullywreathed: (and you seem to break like time)

[personal profile] peacefullywreathed 2016-04-08 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
"No?" Solomon lifted an eyebrow. "Doesn't the Force connect you with all beings, all things? My connection might be more refined to a specific object--so to speak--but it doesn't sound much different to me. We call it magic, but there's a great deal of science behind it."

Solomon's job at the Temple had had very little to do with science--but the necromancers had, for years, sought ways to quantify their beliefs. In a number of fashions, they'd even managed to achieve it.

His eyes widened with facetious innocence. "That depends on who you mean by 'my people'. Sorcerers? The Irish? Earth?"
hadthehighground: (witty)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-04-08 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"It does," Obi-Wan agrees. "It's an all encompassing energy that surrounds us and penetrates us. It's created by all living things and yet is also a part of them. There's even two elements of the Force, the living and the cosmic. There is really no singling out one part of it, though many do specialize in some aspects over others. I've observed several different kinds of 'magic' from different Foreigners. It's a rather broad term for something that's very different between worlds. Though this is the first time I've heard it compared to the Force, so forgive me if I don't quite understand."

With only a brief explanation, it was difficult for him to compare the two. The corner of his mouth then turned upward slightly at Solomon's question.

"Well, the Jedi are what you considered my people. I'm assuming you have a similar group or organization of... sorcerers is it?"

Ah, well, that did make some sense. "You're not wrong," Solomon acknowledged. "People have a tendency to use the word 'magic' for anything that's unexplainable or unquanitifiable, and apparently that tendency follows throughout the multiverse. I can only speak for mine, where magic is a part of living beings while encompassing them. There are two facets--Elemental magic and Adept magic. Any specialisations fall under those categories."

Solomon sent Obi-Wan a brief flashing grin, almost a smirk. "Now we need to be more specific. Sorcerers, yes--people who have magic and use it. We're a minority, relatively speaking, but a powerful one. We're also separated by nation; Ireland is mine. And then, of course, we're separated by affiliation, sometimes ones that cross national boundaries. So as an institutionalised whole we're not all that much like the Jedi, really."
