[EVENT | FOURTH WALL] THE DREAMING'S FLATULENCE | APRIL 15-30

Characters: ALL and plus ones. (Yes, fourth-wall characters, that means you.)
Date: April 15-30 2016 (2017 in-game)
Location: Mod-posted comment starters are for the immediate aftermath of the odd explosion which starts the event, but this log can also be used for anywhere in the setting anytime between April 15-30.
Situation: The College went BOOM. Weird people began appearing randomly in the city. After that, other buildings went BOOM even though nothing actually exploded besides the College. After that, scattered buildings developed spontaneous structural damage overnight. Could these events be related? You be the judge.
Warnings/Rating: Add warnings in subject headers as needed.

The morning of April 15th dawns cold, but clear. There isn't a cloud in the sky, the sun's barely risen, and in general the kedan are going about their daily lives - opening shops, heading to work, leading kirin through the city streets. In particular, there's a small but steady stream of people moving in and out of the College.

Then, without warning, a section of the College implodes.

During the following few days, an influx of strange Foreigners appear, seemingly dropped randomly by the Dreaming throughout Keeliai. Someone might end up in a canal, or on a rooftop. Someone else might find themselves flying through the air to land heavily in a disused alley. Someone might wake up in the corner of a kirin stable. A few might even land in Hatal on the mainland, and feel a curious draw leading them back towards the turtle. They arrive in the same unexpected manner as normal Foreigners; the only differences are the sheer amount of people arriving at once, and that none of the newcomers seem to possess any soul gems.

Also during the next few days, kedan and Foreigner alike might be startled by an exact replica of that thunderous boom from the College explosion echoing around Keeliai. This only occurs for about a week, but it occurs regularly, and the source of these strange echoes is impossible to trace.

Once the explosion echoes stop, investigators might notice that specific and exact sections of structural damage from the College appear on other buildings in Keeliai without any obvious cause. These cases of spontaneous long-term damage continue all the way through until April 30th.

Apart from those disruptions, life on the turtle is generally normal for the next two weeks - or as normal as it's possible for life to be when one lives on the back of a turtle where the most powerful gang makes the rules. No one can say for sure exactly when the strange Foreigners vanish again. Some will swear they all vanished at once; others will be equally sure they disappeared one by one over several days. One thing's for sure, however -- by the time April 30th draws to a close, not one of the strange Foreigners is left in Keeliai.

Lets Hyuuga's posturing go, because they both already know that Hyuuga-kun was shocked, and with a good reason.

Meanwhile, he's looking at his younger - well, older now - friend thoughtfully. He believes it really is Hyuuga-kun, and he has hundreds of questions to ask him, more with each second he thinks about them - or two questions, as all the other ones would be just out of curiosity and may just as well wait. He believes this older Hyuuga-kun really is Hyuuga-kun and consequently that this world can take people from various 'present times' (his present is the past to Hyuuga now, and that's fascinating) just as it can take them from various worlds.

But believing is different from knowing (he's used to believing in many things that he doesn't quite know or understand) and so, he can't yet ask important questions, it would be irresponsible of him.

Shakes his head at Hyuuga's question. "I've been here only for a few hours, so I would make a poor host."

This world almost certainly isn't any kind of afterlife, but he's not yet sure why he already believes that. Therefore he leaves that unsaid.

After a moment, he adds "If you're really Hyuuga-kun, it's good to see you again."

Looks pointedly at Hyuuga, silently hoping that he hurries up with proving his identity (there were hundreds ways of doing so), so that Yukikaze's current beliefs can be confirmed.

That in Hyuuga's time, Hyuuga-kun's alive and well - which, most crucially, means that so is Ayanami-sama. Which is exactly the only reason's Yukikaze could afford to laugh like a child earlier.

"How perceptive," Howl answers. "It's been a while since someone recognized the accent. Though I have lost some of it being in Ingary so long. Yes, I'm originally from Wales. Has Ireland relaxed its laws about magic since I've been gone?"

"I know Ireland," Howl offers. Though he doesn't specify how.

"Though it has been a while. Is magic practiced openly there now?"

Howl didn't want to make such a pretty girl uncomfortable. So he lets the topic slide.

"Excellent. That way he shouldn't get into so much trouble. Though if he's not here, Sophie will take care of him. Just as long as she doesn't try to clean my rooms again."

She let out a half-laugh at that, and immediately guessed: "Maid?"

(If his biggest worry was over her cleaning.)

The fact that he hasn't specified doesn't slip by Ghastly. Nor does the fact that Howl hasn't said anything on the topic of whether Earth is a yes or no.

He doesn't know what to make of that, no, but he's definitely noticed those things.

"Not as such, no," Ghastly says, shaking his head again. "We still keep it pretty secret. ...In most of the world, in fact. How long is a 'while'?" He's starting to suspect several years. If not decades or more. "And where is Ingary, exactly?"

[Both too stubborn to give unless it hurt them both terribly. That's them.

So, Anakin is just dumb and being a Sith Lord just made it worse. Gotcha. :/]

I...He's our friend. He's helped us every step of the way and we've worked together to do so many things. It's hard to believe that he would do something like that.

[She doesn't flinch under that black, lifeless gaze, gaining more of her natural calm the longer they talk.]

Not as you are now, but as I remember you. You've been here longer than I have. I've lived here for six weeks now.

[Basically. Sorry Padmé, but your husband is a stupid butt. The stupidest bad choice-ingest butt in the galaxy.]

Kenobi is a good Jedi... and good Jedi put duty to the Order above duty to those they claim to care for.

[He was so very much not a good Jedi in that regard. To`o emotional from the very beginning, too attached to the people that mattered to him.]

... did we time travel too?

[That would be so cool!]

He swallowed hard, once more overcome by this burning need to question his grandfather. All his life he has been wondering, and now he's so close... But doesn't quite dare.

"Your master, Palpatine," he breathes. "The Emperor was great, but you are greater. You defeated him." But only to protect Luke Skywalker at the cost of his own life, which sours the triumph in Kylo's mind.

Kylo sighs irritably. "My mas... Supreme Leader Snoke doesn't make it easier for me to mater my anger. He forces me to deal with the General all the time, and yet won't let me kill him. It's very frustrating."
no_light: (Default)

[personal profile] no_light 2016-05-04 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
He nods. "It's classified information, of course. This knowledge to travel to other dimensions is a powerful weapon in the right hands." Such as the hands of a conqueror. He regards her thoughtfully, wondering if he should take the information from her by force, but there's no point to ruining Janeway's cooperativeness out of idle curiosity.

"So then what we need is more advanced technology than this," he says, pointing at the idyllic, watery townscape around them. "Sensor data first, and I would like astrometric data to see if any of the constellations are familiar."
deltavoyager: (repression779)

[personal profile] deltavoyager 2016-05-04 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly." Kathryn smiles. "If I had some of my own technology, I could probably do just that, but I only have my communicator."

Seriously, even a Tricorder would help about now.

"So, we're stranded in a place that seems to have a limited technological development." She says "seems to" because, you never know... "What would be the first thing we do?"

Don't disappoint her, Kylo.
dorkvader: (Huh?)

[personal profile] dorkvader 2016-05-04 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Did I? Neat." He's been exploring the idea of overthrowing his master. The desire to be free and to rule with his son... It's something that appeals to him.

"Killing an enemy is always satisfying." Good catch, Kylo. His grandson learns quick and this pleases him. "There are other ways to destroy an enemy. Manipulating circumstances so they fall out of favor, this will make them vulnerable. Then you will be free to take your revenge."

Still, making Kylo deal with such a constant irritant was a good strategy for fueling his anger. This Snoke was not without guile.
no_light: (hell bent)

[personal profile] no_light 2016-05-04 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
And Kylo could really, really do without this extra training in the form of a red-haired menace. He's scowling at the mere mention of him, looking as if he had smelled something unpleasant.

"That's what I've been trying to do! But he's the most boring person to have ever lived. He's too bland to have a single vice, other than his overwhelming incompetence and arrogance. Everybody's mind is full of dirty little secrets, but I doubt I could find anything interesting in his even if I were permitted to ransack it."

He crosses his arms in front of his chest, looking for all the world somewhat sulky. Okay, more than just somewhat, more like definitely sulky. "Did you ever have to put up with people like that, gra... Master? I bet you didn't have to keep them alive."

This... is a trick question, right? He eyes her suspiciously, tilting his head to transmit his curiosity though the mask hides his face.

"Find a knowledgeable local to interrogate," he offers slowly. He's censoring himself here to appear harmless and friendly, but even with this much he isn't quite sure if it's acceptable. Hard to tell, not knowing how squeamish they are wherever she comes from. "We would need to acquire as much information about the place and the captors... Rather standard procedure."

He falls silent for a moment, considering. "Under the circumstances, there is a chance other people have been taken from our worlds, it is important to know if they are friend or foe, preferably without alarming foes."

[She knew it before she married him, and yet, they're still married. Butt.]

I can't believe that. It's...even if you... It's not possible.

[But she knows that, in her heart, if Anakin really did fall to the Dark Side, Obi-Wan wouldn't let anyone else go after him.

The question remains though: Why didn't he try to bring him back? Even with all of the information she has, she knows Anakin, what kind of man he is deep down inside. He could never truly be evil.]

What? No, time here hasn't made sense to me since I got here, but even this is a bit strange.

"OK," Skulduggery says as he walks up. "This is some kind of weird sorcerer commune you weren't previously aware of."

It's immediate. Habit, even after years of not seeing Valkyrie once. It never ceases to amaze him how quickly habits of old can spring back up the moment they're needed, particularly since he doesn't actually have a brain with which to store them.

He takes a moment to look her up and down. Eighteen. But of course she's eighteen; her parents gave her that car for her eighteenth birthday. Past the events of Argeddion, at least, but that's as close an approximation as Skulduggery can make. Her attitude suggests she hasn't lived through the deaths of anyone she cares about, but Valkyrie was always good at hiding how she felt with bravado.

"I'm going to ask you a question," he says. "The question won't make any sense to you, but since it's important I'm hoping, maybe fruitlessly, that you'll answer it right away without immediately demanding an explanation. Are you wearing any jewelry you weren't wearing before?"

[And that is something he is more grateful for than he can express.]

It is the truth. I.. have never been able to lie to you. Even now.

[Oh Padmé, if you had any idea. The things he's done. The pain and the suffering he's caused.]

We have been brought here, on the back of a giant space turtle... Strange is one way to think of it.

It is the only explanation, I haven't seen you since... Not for a long time.

"All too often. Some took longer to rid myself of than others." Perhaps his young apprentice will benefit from knowing he is not alone in his frustrations. More importantly that he can move beyond them.

"Everyone has a weakness, arrogance is a powerful one. Be mindful my young apprentice and you will find your chance to use it to your advantage."

"You don't have a soul gem...?" Tony repeats, surprised. "That's..." Weird, but not unprecedented. "Something like this happened last year - a bunch of new Foreigners showed up, but they didn't have soul gems, and they vanished after a couple weeks. It was like the spell overloaded. Too many people came in at once and it wasn't able to hold onto them. This could be another event like that." In which case his new science-magic friend won't be sticking around. He's not sure if he should offer condolences or congratulations.

Tony shakes his head. "But those Foreigners weren't different from the rest of us, other than not having soul gems. I don't remember anybody saying their magic or other abilities worked any differently." He chuckles, and adds, "So I still think you'll have a better chance of creating real pizza than Anton. It's not the recipe, it's the ingredients. Cheese doesn't come from cows, all the spices are different, and they don't have anything that's really like a tomato. It's like... eating vegan gluten-free pizza. Everything tastes just a little bit off."

Zelos freezes when he hears his name called, not in the least because it's a voice that's easy to identify. Great, he'd banked on nobody from home being here, but it looked like he wasn't going to be that lucky.

Even though he considers running, it soon occurs to him that it wouldn't do him any good. He's pretty injured as it is, and wouldn't make it very far before Raine caught up.

He turns around nonchalantly, offering the most-convincing grin that he can, considering the circumstances.

"Well, definitely didn't expect to run into you again so soon."

As much effort as he puts into staying calm as he says it, to anybody reading him, it'll be clear that something's off. He's pretty much a whirlwind of emotion right now, and there's nothing he can do to settle it down.

A grin spreads slowly across Rover's face. "Yet," he confirms. "The Americans throw a tea party and don't invite the British, the British try to force the Americans to drink more tea, and the Americans decide enough's enough, let's go to war." Rover waves a dismissive hand. "I'm sure there's more to the story than that, but the end result is that America somehow wins and becomes its own country, and the British try desperately to scrape the whole embarrassing event from their history books. It was funny to watch. Probably not quite as funny to be involved in, so watch your back for the next decade or so."

The first thing Raine notices, beyond the fact that this is Zelos Wilder in Keeliai, is that something is wrong.

She can't put a finger on what, but it's enough to make her frown at him, brow knit with worry rather than anger. That's Zelos' off-handed greeting, that's certainly his rakish grin-- but there's something that rings hollow about it, and even years-old familiarity is telling her that Zelos is hiding something.

Zelos is always hiding something, to be fair, but usually he's better at it. And he has a few injuries, to boot. Raine doesn't remember every wound she healed along the journey, so it might fall by the wayside, but paired with the oddness she's seeing in him it's something to keep in mind.

She stops only a few paces from him, resting her staff on the ground. "I've been here a while," she says by way of explanation, and indeed Zelos -- if he has enough wherewithal to pay attention -- may note that Raine looks some little bit older. "Zelos-- what's the last thing you remember?" If there's a disparity in their origin time, best to discern it now. And perhaps that will tell her something of what's wrong, as well.

[Well, he certainly isn't acting like that right now, is he?]

I didn't say you were lying. I'm sure it's the truth, as you see it.

[So what? There isn't a single person without some grain of good in them. And she knows that Anakin has more than just one. No matter what he's done in his grief and anger, she knows he's still the same boy who called her an angel and declared they'd be married when he was nine years old.]

Trust me. I've already exhausted that line of thought in my time here. It's just like being on another world without being able to leave.

How long has it been? [How long has he been alone without anyone who loves him close? Or even alive.]

[Part of him would love nothing more than to do just that. Another part of can't help but see her, ageless as she is, and not be reminded of everything he'd lost. It's easier this way.]

Mine should be the one that matters.

[Ugh. Really? He sounds like a kid again. (Says the guy who got a McLucas meal just for the toy. Sith Lord, you're doing it... Odd.) Anyway, he was young and naive back then. He believed that doing the right thing was doing the good thing. War changed that.]

It's been... a lifetime. Please, don't ask for more than that.

[It's only his own self that's stopping him from doing what he wants. Pity.]

As much as I love you, even I'm not blind to the fact that everyone sees things differently. I'm no different in that instance.

[Despite the words of Obi-Wan and Galen Marek, Padmé finds it difficult to see him as a monster. Even in this strange, cold, lifeless suit, speaking with a voice she doesn't recognize, she can see the spark of light and hope in him. While others might think him lost, she won't give up on him.]

I can't imagine how this might be for you. It was hard enough for me when our son showed up. [She smiles sadly, her thoughts turning automatically to Luke and how starved for any sort of information about her he was.] Our grandson referred to me as a relic and Luke didn't know anything about me.

Part of me wants to apologize to you all for that, but I don't know if that's even the right move in this instance, since from what I understand, there is nothing I can do to stop you from becoming the man in front of me.
