New Moon, New Year!

Characters: All
Date: January 28th
Location: Sky Sector Gardens
Situation: The New Years Party has arrived and maybe it won't be a total Disaster? You decide.
Warnings/Rating: None so far!

Setting up Sonja's party spur of the moment in less than a month was already a task, and having a city-wide storm roll in in the middle of it was... it was not helpful.

She had contacted Odyni early in the month to see if the Guilt wanted to participate, but even the lackluster response she got went by the wayside once the storm hit. She had wanted to get a large number of businesses involved in the party, but at this point, she could count the number on one hand.

Still, she was determined to make the best of things, and had a few things to look forward to.

[ Decorating ]

Sonja had little in the way of juulan to throw around, so she was making due with a few meager donations and a few bits and bobs she'd begged away from various shops, most of it in the way of stored junk. She'd been collecting and sorting and refurbishing for weeks and now she was trying to get it all put up in time for the party, with whatever help she could get. (Someone please help her)

She didn't exactly have row after row of paper lanterns, but colorful paper on strings looked pretty nice if you did seventy billion of them. If you arrange the crude paper fans and cracked ceramic figurines well enough you can imagine that they weren't scavenged from the trash.

[ Event Start ]

All the invitations, by word of mouth, over the network, and if you're lucky, by formal paper invitation, gave the festivities start at nightfall. The decorations, such as they are, are all setup, the gardens lit by paper lanterns and lamps. The services available are... paltry. She managed to get two food vendors to setup in the gardens, so everyone has the choice of a variety of breaded and fried unidentified masses, and another that's selling heavily fermented (arguably rotten) food that smells like death.

On the bright side, there is booze. A rather limited supply of booze. In fact, it runs out only a couple hours into the event and the vendor leaves. Hope you're an early bird.

[ Performances ]

A parade was pretty much out of the question at this point, despite Sonja's hopes. Still, she did manage to get a few shows booked for the day, mostly paid for out of pocket. A few solo performers, a dance troupe. Pretty much people you'd see performing on busy streets on any given day.

[ Fireworks ]

At the very least, the part that Sonja had been working on the hardest, seems to go well.

After all the stars are out and the moon is entirely invisible, the Fireworks begin! Sonja has never run a fireworks show before, but if there's anything she's good at, it's planning. She had something like a dozen different firework setups each on a single fuse that she could light and then return to the audience to watch as roman candles and sparklers triggered in sequence.

The final sequence, after a whopping ten minutes of fireworks, was to fire off in sequence the only three rockets she'd gotten her hands on. Still, it was very satisfying seeing them explode.
