For a few seconds, Pepper just blinked at him. Then she broke into a smile that could be described as adoring. That might have been about the best thing Bakura could have said to her after the snag they'd just hit.
As if to make her point more in action than in words, Pepper leaned over and kissed him.
"How about this: we have permission to ask each other to make changes, but neither of us has to just because we get asked," she proposed when she drew back again, trying to ignore the way her heart rate had just gone up of its own accord. She must be blushing again. "If the answer is 'yes', we can remind each other about whatever the agreed change is gently if we need to. And if the answer is 'no', that's totally okay, and we'll cross those bridges when we come to them. Either way, either answer, we support each other."
When they reach those bridges, and not if, since this will probably not be the last time they encounter struggle. That's okay, too, though. No relationship was perfect, and they've learned something valuable here.
