"I returned to life after three days," she tells him matter-of-factly. "It was a condition of an agreement. However, the circumstances were such that I didn't have to pay the normal price for my return." She follows his gaze out to the canal, her expression unreadable.
"This isn't imagined. It's a memory." She turns to him. "Are you sure you want to know the details? They aren't very nice," she says as though she'd be describing a rotten piece of fruit instead of the subject of her nightmare.
