A. BAKURA - In Jail

Following Bakura's arrest as a result of his Dust-triggered attack on a kedan, he'd been given a combination of jail time, penalty fines, and proposed 'community service' when the time served was up. He had not accepted the ruling lightly, which had nearly resulted in a much larger conflict than the singular initial assault.

It had been resolved, at least to the point that no one else had ended up injured (although it had been close, when one of the KPD officers had tried to insist that removing all personal effects to be stored included the Ring.)

Most of the time he feigns sleep, though more for not being interested in talking to any of the others in adjacent cells. Sometimes Diabound is present as well, coiled on the cot as a form of distraction.

B. BAKURA - Post Release - STARTER PENDING

C. ELIZABETH - All Sectors

Since she'd joined the Guild of Justice and Arbitration, Elizabeth seemed determined to be an ideal member. That meant that she was going around to various places in the city, introducing herself and asking if there was anything that the GJA could do for people. Some people seemed approving that she'd moved outside the Foreigners Guild, while others were indifferent.

"Are you sure there's nothing you can think of? Every idea is an idea worth hearing, I've always thought."

D. ELIZABETH - Greenhouses

The damage done to the greenhouse crops and more importantly everyone's hard work had stoked an indignant fire in Elizabeth, and when she wasn't on deliveries for the Midnight Hotel, she could be found working to help get things back on track at any of the hydroponics sites. At the moment, she was wrestling with a gunk-covered drainage mechanism, which would need to be fully disassembled and cleaned before it could be used again. The messy work clashes with her usual neatly pressed outfit, and yet she looks like she's barely noticing that she's gotten covered in mud.

"Aha, got it! Now, let's see how this comes apart..."

He gave her a sly grin, pushing off from the cot to approach the cell bars. "Ah, that's right. You haven't been introduced yet."

One hand came up, fingers curled around the outer edge of the Ring-- Eliyen had no doubt heard about the incident when they'd tried to take it. For a moment, it's as though nothing happens... and then the air is thick with them, drifting and fading, forming a shifting, murky corona in his vicinity.

"Say hello, hapireyet."

When Bakura touched the Ring, she tensed, preparing for an attack - and one came, of a sort.

The ghosts swarmed around, clearly attached to Bakura in some way. Dark spirits, indeed. Illusion or supernatural event; either way, it was impressive, and more than a little bit unnerving.

Still, no need to be impolite, even if she didn't know what the appellation meant (possibly an insult). "Hello." She was still tense, and her voice shook, just a bit, though she did her best to maintain her composure in the face of...this.

Congratulations, Bakura. You've managed to rattle the unrattleable.

He lets them move about (which they were doing anyway, just previously unseen) and the way they crowded close to him and moved smoke-like through loose fingers definitely seemed to confirm a type of bond that illusion likely wouldn't mimic. They fade when he releases the Ring, although the gesture his more habit on his part than any actual need to access the Item.

"Chesala was speaking about the goings-on at the greenhouses," he said when the cell once again appeared 'empty' except for Diabound on the cot. "I know that. I knew it then, too, but I cared much less." That part, at least, was the effect of the Dust. Not ignorance, but apathy.

Pepper had been more than a little distracted since Bakura was poisoned, and had been keeping a close eye on the situation as it progressed. It was all different kinds of not fun, watching someone she cared so deeply about be subject to the system she was supposed to guard and enforce. This wasn't right.

It wasn't hard to get in for a visit, and she'd even sweet-talked a guard (read: talked their ears off to the point of agreeing with her just to make her stop) into letting her bring him a few small things.

"Hey," Pepper said quietly, curling her fingers around one of the cross-piece bars. She hesitated for a moment. "This is the part where I'd usually make a joke, but I can't think of anything that doesn't end up sounding awful."

She watched the ghosts move, and kept an eye on them as they faded like smoke.

"And can they interact with the physical world?" she asked, sounding more curious than accusatory. She was truly intrigued - the Foreigners may have been tough to deal with on some accounts, and this one had attacked a kedan and done much damage, but that didn't mean that she wasn't fascinated.

It wasn't quite 'know thy enemy' - more a case of 'know thy neighbor'.

"I suppose not, otherwise you might have engineered a jailbreak by now." And she favors him with a quick, small smile.

"They can in some ways," he said with a shrug. "They don't, normally." Unless he wanted them to, or they wanted to attack someone. Generally those two desires lined up.

"But I wouldn't need their help if I wanted to leave this cell." He returns the smile; his has a decidedly different tone.

Diabound was quick to slither toward the bars for pettings, while Bakura merely let one leg hang off the edge of the cot and swing idly back and forth. "You can take your time to muster one," he deadpanned. "I'm not going anywhere."

At least for the moment. It would depend on how much more of these walls he could take.

That was absolutely not the answer that she was looking for.

"Oh?" She's a little tense again. On the one hand, at least he was staying in the cell. On the other...how do you contain someone who might decide he no longer wishes to be contained?

Bakura shrugged. "I've been asked to humour this ruling by people whose character carry weight with me."

"Funny, I was under the impression that our last death match ended in a draw," She replied dryly. Bakura seemed to have forgotten what Revelations was capable of. "I shall overlook the fact that you just threatened me, I don't need another reason to end up in the cell next door to you."

Though it seemed that was unlikely with the way things were going.

Dark eyes narrowed at her for that, especially her tone, and there was a prickle of energy brittle and hot in the air.

"Yes, how about you overlook that, but for your benefit, not mine. Show yourself out, I am done speaking with you."

"Right," Valdis replied, "For my benefit."

Because apparently that was how it needed to be from now on. No good deed goes unpunished apparently and no matter how hard she tried, it just wasn't worth it. She turned on her heel and left, there wasn't a point in staying. He could rot there if he so desired.

"I brought you uh, some things." She held out the bag.

Pepper knelt down to greet Diabound, stroking under it's chin gently. At least the ka seemed relatively happy, and Bakura wasn't exactly himself, but he wasn't pacing around growling, either.

"Well... I guess the joke's really on other people, if they start getting all worried that I'm dating a criminal," she said idly after a moment, offering him a small smile. "I wanted to bring you your carving tools so you had something to do, but I figured they wouldn't let me bring anything sharp." There was a wry lilt to her tone - they both knew he didn't need a small carving knife to escape or cause damage. "But I brought you some... company, I guess."

That... was a surprise. They weren't on bad terms by any stretch, but he didn't think they were on 'bring you loot in prison' terms either. He got to his feet and came over to the bars, passing a hand through them to accept the bag and look inside.

He didn't miss the wryness and it was faintly returned, although the carving tools would have been appreciated anyway. The lack of small things for his hands to do was almost as bad as the walls.

"Did you now?" he raised an eyebrow.

Well, special occasions and all.

Artisian stuff was outside of Sonja's salary range, but it was a variety of various local dried meats and fruits that she'd curated herself.

"I'm not completely sold on the way Eliyen is handling this, so I wanted to make sure you were... not being treated badly."

"I honestly don't see how keeping you locked up is productive at all."

"Yup." Carefully, Pepper reached into her bag and pulled out a small, potted cactus, which she placed on one of the crossbars. "I saw this and thought of you," she informed him, smiling more certainly now.

A few more things came out of her bag: several lengths of cord (for games like cat's cradle - just to satisfy the need for movement), a bag of sweets, and a small rectangular box. She'd scrounged up enough buttons and paperclips for pieces, and drawn out the rows of houses and the necessary markings. It wasn't fancy, but it might be enough to provide a little distraction.

"It's not nearly as nice as the set you finished, but it's functional. Can I convince you to get out of bed and play a game of senet? Winner gets the candy."

Sheena had heard about Bakura's arrest and what had led up to it, and she still felt it unfair. Those feelings, however, took a back seat as she entered the jail to visit the man. While they weren't the closest of friends, she still felt concerned about him and what had happened.

Coming up to the cell, she waited in silence as the guard walked away. Seeing Diabound, the ninja guessed Bakura was still awake--unless he had the ability to Summon while unconscious. Well, only one way to find out.

"Hey. Are you two all right?"

She meant in all aspects--not just physically.

Word got around, and by the time the news reached Zatanna, Bakura had already been imprisoned. She reacted with the usual mixture of surprise and disbelief, along with a healthy sense of skepticism. She might not have known Bakura as well as others, but she'd like to think she knew him well enough to state that such an attack was way out of character for him. Something was up.

Of course, before she could go around vocalizing her opinions, there was one thing she needed to do first: stop by the prison.

He was still when she approached the cell. Quiet enough just in case he really was sleeping, so as not to disturb him, but audible enough for him to recognize her nearby presence in case he wasn't. It was his decision whether he wanted to acknowledge her or not if that were the case.

(Ruh roh.)

Okay, she'd humor him. "And whose character carries weight with you?" This would be good information to have, to be sure these people are on her side in future.

"Not yours, yet," he answered. If she was looking for an angle on him, she'd have to be slightly less transparent than that.

"Was there something you needed in particular from me, or were you just trying to start a new tradition of speaking to your guests?" Bakura added, the last term used as if to emphasize that his containment wasn't immutable.

That actually made her laugh, just a little. "Very well, then."

The hostility hadn't gone away, it seemed. Not that she'd really expected it to. "I wanted to get to know you better."

Mission...accomplished...?

Eliyen has no frame of reference to know this isn't hostility on his part, but that's not her fault. He's not thrilled to be in here, but for the moment that's in hand and not going any further than a bad mood over it.

Her answer surprises him sonewhat, although outwardly only the faint tilt of his head gives evidence to it. "That's the sort of thing better done before verdicts are passed, hapireyet. Trying to do it after the fact is disingenuous at best, and mockery at worst."

This was certainly a notable incident that Bakura intended not to forget lightly, although probably not in the way the Arbitrator and others might have hoped.

The gifted foods might be less entertaining than art supplies, but they're actually meaningful on an entirely different level to Bakura personally, and so she will get a deferential incline of his head in thanks.

"Oh?" The way he says it, coupled with the raise of a pale eyebrow, implies he agrees with her opinion on that.

"So for idle interest, what would your ruling on the matter have been?"
