The land spirit is gone, or not talking to her, or something - her connection is gone, which makes no sense, because otherwise how could she have ended up here?

Eventually she gets off of the rock, tear tracks down her face, and goes to sit down on the leaves. She puts her hands on the ground.

"Why aren't you talking to me?" she asks, her voice hitching. "What did I do?!"

If the connection's been broken somehow...there's a way to fix it. That is, if it'll work like it did the first time. If what sensei told her had been all of it, she knew what to do.

She draws her belt knife and slices a line across her left palm.
