[ Jack landed on a rooftop, stumbling and using his staff to brace himself until he found his footing. The North wind gusted worriedly around him, feeling the teen's exhaustion in the slump of his stance, the way he wobbled as he tried to take a step and had to stop. His breath came in pained pulls that never quite reached into his lungs (unneeded) but ingrained, his ability to create the lightning-like ice attacks (cold fire, though he could never remember how he knew it was called that) had been all but sapped. But everywhere he went there seemed to be more of the shocking apparitions, and that seemed to be the only attack that turned them aside. With no proper sleep or a chance to recharge in a cold location for a few days, Jack was quickly reaching and exceeding his current limits.
He didn't see the spectre until it was almost on top of him, reacted more out of instinct to the wind's shrill whistle. It struck him with a crackle of electricity and Jack shouted, feeling the strike roll over his body. Yet before he could retaliate, it dove at him (through, no, inside!) and it was like the sensation of being walked through by those who could not see him only multiplied by a hundred and didn't fade as the other feeling did. Jack struggled against a force that had no physical form, no point he could lash out and strike, feeling it fighting to overtake his limbs for its own. The spectre held fast, pressing itself into every crack and crevice of his mind, reached somewhere deep inside him and found what the spirit kept quashed down.
No-no-no-no not that!
Afraid, Jack abandoned the mental effort to reclaim possession of his body in favour of folding everything he had around that vital thing like a shield, and then he felt the last of his control slip away. ]
